Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

So, Cavs can still possibly resign JR Swish (wouldn't mind actually) AND still move that Haywood contract for someone (or someones) around ~12M/year to help at PG or the wing?

I approve. I very much approve of this off-season.

What'll suck is.. now the non-Cav fans will say "they bought the title".. like Yankees were known
that'll make me feel bad.. until we have the trophy.. then I won't give a shit..
altho, not sure I will care .. ever

I realize I may be a Buckeye homer, but I'd like to see the Cavs get Evan Turner with the Haywood contract, assuming nothing better is available. It seems like people are very down on Turner, but he could back up Lebron at SF, and fill in at SG. He's not the dead eye 3-point shooter we could use, but he's always been surrounded by garbage and I'd like to see what he could do on a roster like ours.

I wonder if there's any chance they could get Koufos for the MLE, trade BHC for a backup PG, and get Mo Williams and/or Norris Cole for the min. Hell if you could get those 3 they can just cut Haywood. Time for the Ohio guys to get on the train.

Looking like Heywood going to go to San Antonio. Only problem with that is they are hot on the trail of Lamarcus Aldridge. I would definitely hate to see that happen.

On the other hand looks like Patty Mills just might be a guy in the move coming back and he would be a nice backup at PG/SG for this team. The other guy could pound sand whomever it is.

I haven't found any mention of that. I thought the Spurs had already cleared up enough space for LMA. There are 2 ways to look at something like this. Making the Spurs better makes it harder for the Warriors to get out of the West. On the other hand why would the Spurs and Cavs do anything to help each other out since it just improves the odds of meeting in the Finals next year. The Spurs don't mind dumping a player for nothing to the Hawks because they know they'll never have to face them in the Finals, it just makes the Cavs path a little harder.

The Cavs' rosters as it currently stands, ranked in order of importance:

01. Lebron James (assuming he re-signs)
02. Kyrie Irving
03. Kevin Love
04. Iman Shumpert
05. Timofey Mozgov________
06. Tristan Thompson
07.
08.
09.
10. Anderson Varejao
11.
12.
13. Joe Harris
14. Mike Miller
15.

If Delly and James Jones re-sign, they will presumably (hopefully) fill slots #11 and #12 - guys who can give you 8 to 10 minutes a game but won't be relied upon to fill key roles like they had to in this year's NBA finals.

Maybe Rakeem Christmas fills the #15 slot, just for jersey sales - what Cavs fan wouldn't want a Christmas jersey?

It will be interesting to see who fills slots #7, #8, and #9 - those will be key rotational players, maybe the difference between a championship and another second-place finish.

The Cavs could significantly reduce their luxury tax payment if they were able to move Varejao. LeBron likes playing with him so it probably won't happen, but the guy isn't worth 10 million a year. He's probably not worth five.

The last real question is what happens with JR. Apparently the Cavs have suitors on the Haywood contract. They could bring in a JR replacement on that deal. After his Finals performance, I'm certainly not against it. What does GM LeBron think?

Who cares about luxury tax, I ain't paying a cent.

But the last pieces now are JR and the Haywood trade. Haywood is going to be HUGE, teams trying to clear space so they can sign shiny new toys? LOVE THIS! Who knows who we are going to get for Haywood, but I am betting on a PG and a wing.

Now to JR Smith, he is going to regret not picking up the option. He is basically going to twist in the wind. The Cavs have no real pressure to get the deal done right away. So they can play the waiting game. See if any team out there is stupid enough to offer him what he wants. (supposedly 3 years $21+ million) Pray there is no one that wants him for that price, then swoop in at last minute and try to get him for 3 years $15 million type deal with team options for year 3 at least. Probably go as high as $20 for 3 years with team options... but not much more.

Would the Cavs like JR back? sure... at THEIR price, and if they trade Haywood for a JR replacement, then lowball JR even more. But, there really isn't a way to replace him other than the Haywood trade chip.

Of course this is thrown out the window if LeBron says "I want JR back at any cost" card.

It's actually a little depressing when you look at it that way. Yesterday was a good day for the Cavs, but it didn't really make them a better team (not that they need to get better). I like Delly at 11 being the 5th guard. I wouldn't mind Jones back, but it might be good to have an extra roster spot to add someone down the road without having to cut anybody.

To address some of the previous posts I would love if they could move BHC for Turner, but I don't see why the C's would make that move. Turner might not be great, but he is better than unused cap space. I don't see them finding a better option with that money and the Cavs don't have assets to return. Hopefully JR sees that his services aren't in demand and will come back for around the same money for 2-3 years (That would fill in spot 7). Beyond that the key would be a backup PG.

This would be my minute breakdown baring any major changes
PG- Kyrie 33 new backup 15
SG- Shump 30 Smith 8 Delly 10
SF- Lebron 33 Smith 15
PF- Love 32 TT 16
C- Mozzy 24 Andy 14 TT 10
