Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

After 4 games, Columbus sits in 4th place in the East with 7 points. When you figure 5 of our first 7 games are on the road, sitting anywhere above the playoff cut-off line is great. Next game is at home against Philly on Saturday at 5pm.

And how about Ben Speas?? Dude is playing REALLY well for us early on. The Duka trade didn't bother me all that much, but Speas' emergence makes one feel good about that trade. That said, would love to see more output from Oduro in the next few games.

USA Today Sports

An MRI conducted on Thursday afternoon revealed that Crew midfielder Eddie Gaven suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the second half of the Black & Gold's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against Dayton Dutch Lions FC on Wednesday night. While there is currently no set date for surgery to repair the damage to Gaven's left knee, the stalwart will miss the rest of the 2013 season.

Luckily, Justin Meram is starting to come into form (as long as he continues getting PT, which he will), and Speas has looked good since the beginning of the season. Granted, neither have the midfield ability to keep possession going, but both are a bit more capable in the attacking third, IMO. Should be interesting, and the only thing this really effects is where the Crew's final standing will be for the playoffs (if they even make them). Their chances at the USOC are still very well alive, and all they need to do is find a way to beat Chicago in the next round and I'm feeling pretty good about Columbus' chances.

Starting XI:

GK: Andy G
Def: Gehrig, George, Glauber, Wahl
Mid: Finlay, Warzycha, Tchani, Speas, Anor
ST: Meram

Good to see Anor back in the starting XI. Not so excited to see Gehrig playing at RB or George at CB, but if this squad can get good passing with the midfielders they've started (Speas, Finlay, and Anor especially) I like their chances.

Got Lampson, O'Rourke, Sanchez, Oduro, Higuain, Schoenfeld on the bench for today.

Apparently Warzycha originally had Oduro, Higuain, and Sanchez starting but since his ass is on the hot seat, why not try and find some goals in some of his reserve players after they managed to score 4 goals against the same team the Crew starters only managed 2.
