Dan Wheldon killed in crash

Drivers had been concerned about the high speeds at the track, where they were hitting nearly 225 mph during practice.

REALLY? 225 MPH and they STILL decide to run the race? I'm sorry, but some accountability has to go to IndyCar for this accident. That's just absurd. No way in hell should they be going 225 mph.

Kissing the bricks this year with his 2 year old son. :( RIP and thoughts to his family.

I thought the 5-lap tribute by the remaining cars was an appropriate gesture.

But when they were taking those laps, and playing Amazing Grace over the speakers, couldn't the track announcer have allowed the music to be the only thing folks heard for a few minutes?

Dario Franchitti said they should have never been racing at that track. Said it was too difficult to drive away from others, too difficult to differentiate good cars from bad cars... When you have another heavy hitter saying they shouldn't have been there, and another dies.. IDK, IndyCar has alot of explaining to do.

At Indianapolis they go about 230, its part of open wheel racing (but there they get a little bit more spread out)

anyways, RIP Dan, one of my Indy drivers :(

This really sucks. R.I.P. Dan. You were one of my favorites. A good buddy of mine was a spotter for him at Indy every year and I had the privilege of meeting and speaking with him on numerous occasions. Not the news I wanted when I came home from work.

don't care what anyone thinks about people get who get sad over deaths of people they never met..

but this is prob the saddest I have been over a death (not including family members obviously) since Dale Sr (and I hated him while he was driving)
