DB Dustin Fox (National Champion)

Dammit, he is one of the guys who I really, really wanted to see succeed big time.
Oh well, 4-6 weeks puts him back for the season at least.
But if he is going to play some safety, which I think they drafted him as, he must put on some muscle.

"Vikings Officials are concerned."

That's an understatement. Aren't brittle bones a major concern for cancer?

Tough break for a kid who played with a great deal of heart.
Well, if a patient has bone cancer (particularly of the primary type) then one of the SYMPTOMS of the cancer can be brittle bones.

But, the reverse does not follow -- i.e., that brittle bones indicate cancer.

There is link between bone cancer, osteoporosis (affecting older post-menopausal women) and brittle bones in general. It is the use of specific drugs like pamidronate that are well suited to improving bone strength by limiting calcium loss in bone cancer patients, osteoporosis sufferers, or other brittle or wasting bone conditions (paget's disease for example).

Oh -- and this does not mean Dustin is suffering anything more than a lack of calcium and as Mili suggested a rigoruous strength and weight regimen.

Personally I wonder if this latest break reflects on how well his rehab program took following the last break. Hope the Vikings give him the best of care and he has a swift and full recovery.

yeah i mean when youre gettin hit by professional athletes, its not exactly crazy and wild to break an arm. i mean he should be more prepared than most people, but still the violence of the game is open to injuries of all kinds. marking it as a sign of cancer is pretty extreme.

Dustin needs to hit the weights...his arms have always been skinny for his size. Not only will the weights build muscle but will help strengthen his bones.
Obviously hitting the weights maximizes bone mass/density, but wouldn't you think that the level that he was presumably required to be on the weights for the past four years would have had his bone density at near maximal level (for him)? I'm moreso wondering whether it was related to his previous injury, or whether it was an unfortunate coincidence.

Re: Grant Schwartz <hr size="1"> No school in the country puts more DB's into the pros than tOSU including "the U". It's been that way for 25 years. Dustin Fox was talented enough to be a starter here for 4 years! That's a TREMENDOUS feat. If he wasn't a PLAYER, he wouldn't have been on the field as their are always plenty of talented kids to chose from. "Fans" are often unaware of the coverage a defense might be in. Many times what looks like a guy getting burned is actually him just being the closest to the play having made a great play to "get there" even. ANY player that comes in and has a Dustin Fox type career is a great one. Dustin Fox was and is a stud.

I'm always amazed at the mentality of some people concerning white athletes. Fox played CB because he was better than any of the black CB's on the team. Are people suggesting Tressel played him because he's white? As far as Fox at S in the NFL Todd Porter of the Canton Repository interviewed a number of NFL scouts (anonymously) who told him most teams have a hard time seeing a white player at the CB position simply because they're white. It doesnt matter how fast they run or how high they jump (the same goes for RB as well). Fortunately for tOSU it's coaches don't think that way which means they put the BEST players at the RIGHT positions for maximum success. Of course for some people just seeing a black face at corner regardless of ability is always correct.

Dustin Fox is one of the greatest athletes to play for tOSU. Did everything that was asked of him and more at one of the most difficult positions on the field. And did it for four years.

The only thing I don't like about him is every time they did a close up feature on TV, my wife left a wet spot on the couch. I'd say, "Dammit, darlin', you're old enough to be his mother." She'd say, "I don't care, he's hot!"

Maybe Dustin should've brought a can of shoe polish to each game so he could look like this:
