DE Jamal Marcus (Official Thread)

Grad and I were discussing Marcus today. Imagine how good this kid is going to be once he learns to play within a college system. Right now he excels by just being the best athlete on the field combined with phenomenal size. He is extremely raw but this kid's potential is amazing...

I'm a broken record in this thread but, YES PLEASE!!

Man. He was playing mostly in coverage in that clip and excelling. His highlight film he destroys everything in his path, usually in the opponents backfield. Other than maybe Noel Divine's sophomore film, his film is the most impressive I've watched. I havent seen as many films as some guys on here but I couldn't take my eyes off him when I watched his.

He's coming to campus. Put the full court press on when he does, imo.

I see a Shazier clone all over again. His speed to run down plays is just unreal and his effort seems to be all out on every play. I'd take him over any of the linebackers on the board. After seeing Shazier's transition onto the field compared to our other LBs, an undersized LB with serious speed is more important to bring in than a bigger, average speed LB IMHO. Neal and Marcus would start speeding up this team in a hurry.

Very different body shape compared to Shazier...but your point is still valid.

I was thinking the same thing Wade. He's long but he isnt thin at all. I could totally see him at about 230-235 and crushing people all over the country. You have to figure the training table is going to put about 10 pounds on him and the S&C from a guy like Marotti is going to make sure it goes to the right places on his body. Kid is a tactical missile waiting to be pointed at someone.

I see a LB. I don't see a 4.6. I see a very instictive football player.

Just looking back through this thread and Grad's post rings true to me after watching this kid's film. He's very gifted, but what stands out to me most is how disciplined he is and how well he reads the offense. Seems like a great prospect.

He does seem raw from the level of coaching he's received but it seems to me has incredible instincts/football IQ. He's definetely a heat seeking missile out there but what I think allows him to do that is his ability to diagnose pre-snap. I can't believe he's not higher rated & could see him contributing early where ever he ends up.

This guy is #1 priority, for me. I've seen what Meyer has been able to accomplish on both sides of the ball. I think we end up with one of the two between Diggs and Neal (so I'm not too worried). I hope his grades are up to par with admissions! This guy could solidify an absolute juggernaut of a defense for the next 3-4 years.

I think Williams is in. Perkins is also one that looks like a heavy lean. Do they take three LB's at the expense of other priorities? Only Urban knows. My last 5 picks in priority of need are;

1. Dodson or Diamond
2. Perkins
3 Williams
4. Reeves (we just dismissed 2 CB)
5 Neal or Bradley

Let's not forget that Jamal Marcus was one of the first recruiting targets identified by Mark Pantoni after he was hired by Ohio State. Marcus is definitely a top priority for this staff, maybe the number one player remaining on their board. Linebacker is still very thin, and two more are needed right now. Marcus and Williams would fit the bill perfectly.

Getting Decker and O'Connor in the fold certainly relieves some of the need for another OL in this class (although Dodson, at least, would certainly be a nice addition).

As you mentioned, CB is a need all of a sudden, so the staff will make a strong push for Reeves as well.

My wish list, in order, would be:

1. Marcus
2. Williams
3. Dodson
4. Reeves
5. Anybody else who can play and fill a need
