Of note, he is currently en route for his official in Columbus...

His star ranking may not reflect it (he is highest on ESPN with 4 stars) but Marcus is a freak! The linebacker situation is alleviating itself with Perry, Roberts, the commitment of Perkins, and now the closing in on Marcus and Williams.

this is one recruit that if you look at his film you realize how stupid some of the rankings are on recruiting websites

Jamal's recruitment reminds me of the recruitment of OL Jeremy Zuttah (Rutgers) quite a bit. He's got to be leaning towards staying home at ECU at this point, but like The Bank says, anything can happen when the recruit gets on campus for an official with UFM.

Just a thought, maybe he'd rather play right away, rather than sit on the pine for a year or two. Pros will pick out 'their' types of players from wherever, and whatever league. Assuming of course that the players are kicking butt...

But on the other hand, learning a pro set, and the discipline of a elite program (play your position, instead of running all over the field) makes a big impact on the pros as well.

Dunno, but I kinda wonder why this kid doesn't have more and better offers than he does. Either way, if he becomes a Buckeye, he'll be trained up by the coaches before he graduates.

With a new head coach and the less than stellar performance from the linebacker unit last season, there's likely just as much playing time to be had at Ohio State as there is at ECU if he's ready to step in and earn it. I'm sure Coach Meyer will be driving that point hard.

In all fairness, LB at this level usually requires a year for a kid to get through the S&C program before he's ready. It's a very special exception where that is not the case. Mind you, we've been blessed with quite a few of those exceptions over the past few years... but Big Katz don't grow on trees very often.

Exactly. Marcus is top flight, I am baffled at the 3 star rating on both Scout and Rivals. All we need to know is that Urban made him a priority and his game film is lights out. Plus we saw his ability in coverage in the Shrine Bowl film.

Oh, I know. When I talk about playing time I'm referring to Hawk, Laurinaitis or Shazier-type contributions. That opportunity is there for freshmen on next year's team I think.

I don't want to put words in the kid's mouth (or anyone else's for that matter) but if he's looking for Katzenmoyer-type playing time at Ohio State or even ECU for that matter he might be hard pressed to find it, for the reasons you just mentioned.
