DE Lawrence Wilson (official thread)

With the history of Ohio States Defensive linemen and the way OSU rotates even the younger D-line in and out, he's gotta love his chances of getting some major playing time right off the bat or as soon as he learns the system.

I agree completely.......

We do cycle through some d-linemen. Plus very few have stood out so far this year.

go-bucks!!!

Wilson once again states his trip to Pitt was his favorite. Ohio State coaches are still calling him as much as the rules allow. He says no one school stands out and all 3 schools are close. He mentions the rough start the Buckeyes had to open Big Ten play does not concern him and that all schools lose games.

If he wants too play for a team that's always in contention for the conference titles and who plays some of the oldest and biggest games of the year ... he'll become a Buckeye. If he wants the best chance to go to the next level someday ... he'll become a Buckeye. If he wants to have the best facilities then he'll become a Buckeye!! I also still have confidence due to the fact that he'll look at OSU's defense and see that he'll get some major playing time early.

Wilson Close to Decision
By Mike Frank
Date: Nov 4, 2004

Akron, Ohio defensive end Lawrence Wilson has been close to making his final decision for a while. Irish Eyes spoke to the talented two-way player on Wednesday and Wilson said he's even closer to his final decision. Are the Irish still in the hunt?

Defensive end Lawrence Wilson says he's close to making his final decision.

"It's getting closer," said Wilson. "It could possibly be this week. I've been thinking hard about it."

Wilson says he's talked it over with his parents many times in the last few weeks.

"We talk about it almost every day," he said. "They've been helping me. I'm getting close."

We asked Wilson what would finally push him over the edge to announce his decision.

"I guess when I feel the time is right. I feel like I'm getting there."

We asked Wilson if he had eliminated anyone at this point.

"I wouldn't say I've eliminated anyone. It's really close between Notre Dame and Ohio State," Wilson said.

We asked Wilson if he was leaning towards staying closer to home and choosing Ohio State.

Not really," he said.

Does that mean that he's leaning towards Notre Dame?

"I wouldn't say that, either."

At any rate, Wilson insists he's close to making his final decision and says it's "real likely" his decision could come this week.

Comments: Too close to call. I've said the longer this plays out, the better Notre Dame's chances of landing him. However, I'm not sure what to think at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if he chose either Notre Dame or Ohio State at this point.

I say he will be a Buckeye :osu:

Irish Eyes just received an e-mail from the mother of Akron, Ohio defensive end Lawrence Wilson confirming his commitment to <!--Default For Notre Dame is to ignore-->Notre Dame.

"Just wanted to let you know, it's official. Lawrence gave a verbal commitment to Notre Dame tonight," said Sarah Wilson. "He let coach Willingham know just a couple of hours ago. We are VERY happy and excited."

Wilson becomes the 10th known verbal commitment to Notre Dame. It was late by the time we received the confirmation so we didn't follow up with a phone call. We will call in the morning to get a reaction from Lawrence on the commitment.

We seem to really strike out on D-ends these last few years. It concerns me because I'm really not that impressed with the D-ends we have now. The jury is still out on Gohlston. Kudla has been the biggest disapointment thus far, althougth he seems to be getting a little better. Regardless, the depth and QUALITY of our D-ends is suspect.

I have to count this as a huge loss. Every time i watch LeBron streak down the court, take a bullet pass and dunk the ball i can't help but wonder what he would have looked like as a Buckeye wide out. Third and 5 would be a given.

Lawrence is a huge talent. Even if it took him a year or two to learn a position, his upside is unreal.

Kudla has been injured most of his career. He has really started to come on in the last 2 games.

We've recruited very well recently... Alex Barrow will redshirt and if he plays anywhere near as he did in the big 33 game he will be more than adequate. Doug Worthington is a STUD. Ryan Williams is rated 14th DE Wilson 12th not much difference if you ask me. We still are getting looks from Alaeze.... he may be a long shot but its not like we arent being considered... Im not too worried about the DE position. We have plent of talent....
