Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

Well, he did say he'd take less to play for a winner and you can't get a better team than the Wings.

So, when he gets his name on the Cup next year, does he pimp himself out to the highest bidder?

Holy Shit....I didn't even know they were looking at him really hard.....

and that makes next year's FA market really interesting because while they will resign Zetterburg, you could have either Franzen or Hossa or both hitting the market too....damn.....

He wouldn't take less to stay in the same city that also happened to get to the Finals. He's going to be hated in Pittsburgh. Their offer couldn't have been that much less.. they offered him over 7M per season, and it was a multi-year contract. I thought he wanted a multi-year contract.

I don't blame him, even though I hate the Wings. Tough to not accept that offer, considering they just won a cup and didn't really lose much.

dont they already have like 40m in committed cap?
hossa, zetterberg, samuelsson, franzen will all be ufas. unless you see another 10%+ increase in the cap i dont see it happening.. that being said watch the heck out for the wings!

Something like that, but the cap will likely go up somehwere between 4 and 6 mil next year I think....

I'm mostly kidding about Miller.

Sammy is going to walk.

Zetterburg will likely be re-signed and Franzen will need to continue what he did last year.

Chelios is probably done after next season as is McCarty in all liklihood.

This Wings team has the potential to match the 2001-2002 team in terms of dominance, but they need to get McCarty and/or Downey locked up so they have that grit guy.

and look for Lilja to be traded at some point this season.

as expected Dallas Drake retired yesterday but the signing of Hossa still has every Red Wing fan just as excited for this upcoming season as this past one.

I'm curious as to when or if Zetterberg gets his contract extension. He's probably the 3rd most important player on the team behind Lidstrom and Datsyuk and it would be a shame not to give the guy a much deserved pay increase. There's no way his salary should be less than Kronwall, Cleary and now Brad Stuart.
