DL Michael Bennett (National Champion)

Very impressive shot and discus throws. If the football tapes don't highlight it clearly, these numbers prove his explosiveness.

From his HS football films, I was more impressed with him on offense. Bollman and Heacock may fight for where they believe he is more needed. While we are thin on the O-Line, the D-Line could use another body at tackle. (It would be deeper when there is concrete news of Keith Wells rejoining the team.)

With 2012 (+) Centerville recruits to consider, the coaches need to be true to what they told Michael when he was recruited. I have no doubts that the coaches behaved in an honorable manner.

The explosiveness would be more beneficial on the D side.

If you have no doubts that they acted in anyway other than honorable, why even bring this into discussion? Just seems odd to me, like a bunny that is bloodthirsty.

I think he brought it up because it makes a good point.. we have all heard it mentioned several times that the coaches will "fight" over who gets Bennett on their side.. but perhaps that won't be the case at all if they (the coaches) have already talked to Bennett about where he would like to be playing and have told him that its his choice..

> Exploding into the opponent is the essence of football except for Kickers, QBs and Wide outs -- and I have seen a few smirks on some WR's faces after they blindside an unsuspecting CB. (Of course this may change with new NFL rules).

> No controversy intended. It is likely that recruiters told Michael that he would be given first opportunity as a Defensive Lineman, and (with no sarcasm intended) I believe the coaches would honor that commitment. Perhaps I have a bit of a Chauncy Gardner problem.

All Michael Bennett needed was a hot day. And for much of this spring, that?s been an unfulfilled wish.

But the weather finally delivered during Wednesday?s Greater Western Ohio Conference divisional track and field meet at Fairborn. And so did Bennett.

The Centerville High School senior unloaded four shot put heaves of 60-plus feet, including a day and career best 64-11?. That?s the area?s best effort since Jimmy Pacifico of Vandalia Butler surpassed 70 feet several times in 2007.

?I?ve been waiting for that for four years,? said Bennett. ?I?ve got muscle things going on, so I?m really tight. The heat warms me up and keeps me going. Everything just clicked.?

Centerville senior Michael Bennett made it an area discus sweep with a regional-record 193-3.

That?s about three feet shy of his personal best of last year, but nonetheless closer to his ultimate goal of cracking 200. If he does that, it?ll be at state.

Wayne?s Lovell Peterson was second and Elks teammate Benny McGowan fourth.

?I want 200 real bad,? Bennett said. ?Everything just felt right, I got a good hold on the discus and it just flew.?

The two recipients of the 2011 Sonny Unger award were offensive lineman Michael Bennett and defensive player Kyle Rose.

Bennett, who also played in the Army All-American Bowl, will be playing for Ohio State in the fall. Rose will be attending West Virginia to play football as well.

?Just being singled out as being one of the top athletes on my team, I just want to bring that in to Ohio State,? said Bennett. ? I don?t just want to be content with playing or just being content with being good, I want to be one of the top athletes on Ohio State?s team so I will try to bring that to Ohio State.?

Centerville?s Bennett Could Fit Right In
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? As Michael Bennett?s arm hit the Turf he heard a crack.

The senior defensive lineman out of Centerville was trying to brace his fall on the floor of the Alamodome, but instead he could no longer feel his left forearm.

The 6-3, 275-pound defensive tackle was having a great showing in the U.S. Army All-American game back in January before being blindsided by a block while attempting to take down West quarterback Bubba Starling.

With Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Jim Heacock by his side Bennett lay on the playing surface for nearly 10 minutes before being taken off. He had broken both bones in his forearm (radius and ulna) and it would require immediate surgery.

?That was a little difficult,? said Bennett, now seven months removed from that life-altering fall in San Antonio.

?I lifted a lot, rehabbed a lot and I can lift with it now. It?s pretty good so I?m hoping I can get a splint for it so that I can go through camp. We?ll see how that goes in camp and then hopefully play with it.?

I think Bennett would make a great OG, brings a nasty attitude.

But, I'm sure that the coaches are going to put players where they best help the team. He will make an impact this season and will be an absolute beast down the road. He's very quick for a 280lb monster.
