DT Garrett "The Gladiator" Goebel (official thread)

Scout - Allen Wallace - 07/25/07

Garrett discusses the strong points of both Ohio State and Michigan. Garrett's uncle, Brian, will help him to reach his decision.

A belated comment on the piece linked and synopsized by LJB:

Point #1: Garrett says he will listen carefully to the advice of family (as any intelligent young man should); in particular, to the counsel of his Uncle Brian.

Point #2: We know that at least one person reasonably close to Garrett (our friend 'XP'), who may or may not be a family member (or even an Uncle), travelled all the way to Ann Arbor for his recent, major back surgery. XP obviously felt strongly enough about the caliber of the medical care available in Ann Arbor that he was willing to endure hours of painful travel in order to receive treatment there.

Logical conclusion: None whatsoever.

Hypothetical dot-connecting: [For those who enjoy the anguish of worrying about things they can't possibly control] Someone close to Garrett, perhaps even good old Uncle Brian, has affection/admiration for Ann Arbor. Therefore, obviously, we are toast!

I realize that this post contains no new information; sheds no real light on Garrett's likely decision and can't even be considered particularly rational. But we've got to do something between now and announcement day in August, so why not play Sherlock Holmes?!

Frito... Read XP's last post in this thread and pay attention to how he signed the post...

For those close to the ledge....

Pay close attention....

jump jump jump JUMP JUMP JUMP

I know I am not the only one thinking this.

Oh, and good luck the GG in making his decision, I doubt he will be unhappy regardless of the outcome.
Obviously I would prefer he pick the Bucks though

Carr is not respected around the country the way Tressel is and I've never hear anyone talking about Carr's Christian values the way people talk about Tressel. That's not to say that Carr isn't a great Christian, it's just not what he's known for the way Tressel is.

Go Bucks!!!

I've lurked on this site for a year and your post has caused me to register and respond.

Further, while on a coaching level, Tressel has been superior as of late, do not forget that Lloyd started off 10-1 versus top 10 opponents and won a MNC. Carr might be chastised for a lot of things, but to even think one of them deals with his character issues with players is ludicrous. The only people he treats poorly are the media and then they spin stories against him.

Finally, back on topic, great pick up on Goebel. Kid will be a stud in both run protection and he has the athleticism to pressure the quarterback.

Damn!!! I missed that... Thanks for pointing that out...
Of all of the information contained in Wallace's article, why do you think that I specifically mentioned the part about Uncle Brian? Some of you don't pick up on hints too easily....

...whenever LordJeffBuck is dropping recruiting hints, just keep in mind that one possible anagram for his user name is Red Jock Bluff .

What does that mean? ...I'm not sure, but I'm just sayin. :paranoid:

It means he is a witch....BURN HIM!!!!!

I think Goebel is like Koger in reverse...truly torn...views each option as equals so family allegiance might just be a big enough decision pebble to tip the scales. In Koger's case: UM. In this case it *sounds* like OSU has the advantage. At least I hope this is the case!

i just want to know what michigan said to get him interested because back in early june it was a nd-osu battle with michigan being nowhere on the radar...then the domers were out and UM in....i just hope he does pull a koger and go with his original #1 in osu...found this nugget on the bucknuts free forum....thought it was interesting esp for frito:

From XP
I do not get that same gut feeling after being on another Buckeye forum board where some members' investigative work has been identifying a few missing "puzzle pieces"....you can find rumors, facts but also subtle hints if you are not over-analyzing recent interviews. Snoop Dog and Sherlock have done their homework.

This seems like the opposite of the Kevin Koger case. His film reminds me of Larimore a little bit down in the trenches. I hope to see him in scarlet and gray, but in reality, both OSU and Michigan are great options to play football. Thanks to XP as well.

On a side note, what types of d-line schemes do OSU and Michigan play, one gap or two gap? Thanks.

Roscoe,

OSU's scheme is changing a bit this year, but OSU seems to value the lighter, quicker DTs while um seems to want more beef like Harriston, Watson and other plodders. I believe this is why Lloyd came up with the stuff about playing Goebel at DE.

Is XP Goebel's uncle who went to ASU? Did he play ball there? TIA.

Go Bucks!!!

If (when!) Goebel takes the field for OSU...we should have a pancake count for the DL and the OL at every home game...kinda like how baseball fans hang a 'K' for each strike out.

The potential of this class on both lines has me hugry for pancakes! :tongue2:
