ESPN's Mount Rushmore of sports.

Paul Brown - Any discussion about the history of football in Ohio starts with this guy

Jim Brown - Still, arguably, the best football player to ever put on pads and a helmet.

Cy Young - No brainer. 511 wins, one of the last "unbreakable" records, the award for the best pitcher is named after him, and, again, arguably the best pitcher ever.

Jack Nicklaus - Until Tiger surpasses him, still the greatest golfer of all time.

I can see where people are going with Jesse Owens, Woody, Rose, and even LeBron, but there were factors with each that would compel me to put the other 4 above them.

OHIO
Jesse Owens
Woody Hayes
Jack Nicklaus
Paul Brown*

Slight edge to Paul Brown over Jim Brown. I also agree that for LeBron to be included at this point is ludicrous.

ILLINOIS
Red Grange
Jordan
Ernie Banks
George Halas

Now for the more interesting question: who would you put on Ohio's Mt. Douchemore?

Maurice Clarett
Pete Rose
Albert Belle
Kevin Mackey

Illinois' Mt. Douchemore would be:

Steve Bartman
Shawon Dunston
Scottie Pippin
Bill Wirtz

Georgia:
Bobby Jones - Best Amateur Golfer of all time, founder of The Masters and August National.
Dominique Wilkins - the most athletic basketball player I've ever seen
John Heisman - 15 years spent coaching Georgia Tech
Greg Maddux - Best pitcher I've ever seen

University of Georgia:
David Green - College Football's all time leader in wins as a starting QB
Hur-shul
Teresa Edwards - One of the best female basketball players to ever play the game
Vince Dooley - Head football coach with the most wins

(Honorable mention: Hines Ward, Larry Munson, Terrell Davis, Steve Webber, Suzanne Yoculan)

Interesting. IMO, John Wooden and Mark Spitz (he's their Jesse Owens) would bump two off your list.

For Cali, you'd almost have to break it up into NoCal and SoCal divisions.

Cali's Mt. Douchemore would be pretty interesting, but I believe the general consensus would be that it would begin with Al Davis.

A female basketball player ahead of Uga?

He's in my top four, but any discussion of the history of Ohio State football begins with Chic Harley and Dr. Wilce.
Gotta agree with Ord here big time OSU football started under Dr. Wilce and Chic.
Ohio Stadium , "The house that Harley built"
