Florida LB Alex Anzalone (official thread)

I appreciate that the staff is working on hard to try and get Anzalone back in fold and I think it's a testament to their assessment of him as a player. He obviously has a bright future ahead of him.

That said, it would be hard to imagine seeing him in a Buckeye uniform after the way the fanbase treated him and his family following his de-commitment. Hope I'm wrong.

I agree, it would be hard to imagine seeing him a Buckeye, but due to the way he and his family treated the university and it's fanbase, not the other way around.

Sorry, but this thread will be that same argument over and over again. Might as well just keep it locked and only mods add to it.

At this point he's considering six schools - and surprisingly Ohio State remains one of them.

"Obviously, I liked them before," Anzalone said.

Penn State remains in contention, as do Notre Dame, Florida, Stanford and Southern Cal.

He is heading to South Bend, Ind., today to get a first look at the Notre Dame campus and is considering a return visit to Columbus, Ohio, on the way home later in the week.

Considering the uproar that occurred in early May and the backlash he and his family endured at the time, seeing Ohio State remain on his short list may come as a surprise.

Anzalone said he reconsidered the Buckeyes "after everything died down (and) got less emotional."

Assistant coach Luke Fickell and Meyer have remained in constant contact, with Fickell visiting Wyomissing recently to watch Anzalone work out. Each of the other five schools also stopped by the high school in recent weeks - some more than once.

"I just want to stop by (Ohio State) and see if I'm still interested," Anzalone said of the Buckeye

Anzalone Planning Another Ohio State Visit?
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio — When Alex Anzalone revoked his verbal commitment to Ohio State back in May, many Buckeye fans were hoping it would the last time they heard his name.

They were wrong, at least about their new head football coach.

Not only did Urban Meyer refuse to write Anzalone off, even after his very public de-commitment from Ohio State more than a month ago, he actually upped his efforts in attempt to land the 4-star linebacker out of Pennsylvania.

Meyer and his staff have remained in constant contact with Anzalone, letting him know that he still has a place in Columbus whenever he makes up his mind. OSU defensive coordinator Luke Fickell even made a trip to Wyomissing recently to watch Anzalone work out.

It hasn’t been lost on the 6-3, 220-pound linebacker, who surprisingly plans to make a return to visit to Columbus, according to his hometown newspaper.

“I just want to stop by and see if I'm still interested,” Anzalone told the Reading Eagle this week.

That doesn’t exactly sound like he is planning another commitment on this trip, but right now Anzalone is slowing down the process so he has a chance to look at all his options. That was something he mistakenly failed to do early in the process, which is why his on-the-spot commitment to Ohio State did not hold up.

Alex Anzalone hears from Urban Meyer

Although Ohio State’s potential 2014 linebacker haul is very promising, the Buckeyes are still having trouble securing a top linebacker in 2013.

Urban Meyer is not giving up all hope on one particular ESPN 150 linebacker.

Since Sept. 1, the Buckeyes coach made a call to ESPN 150 linebacker and former Ohio State commit Alex Anzalone.

From an Ozone Article

Alex Anzalone talked to me over the phone after his OSU de-commitment. I asked him what were some of the things he had to endure. He responded by saying:

1.) OSU fans apparently went on the website ratemydoctor.com and wrote false reviews of Alex?s dad essentially trying to tarnish his reputation as a physician. Dr. Anzalone is a pediatrician.
2.) Anzalone received a number of threatening tweets that were so vulgar that he was not comfortable sharing them.
3.) Fans emailed his dad?s office complaining about his son?s de-commitment.

Wow! Just wow!

Sometimes I'm embarrassed by what other Buckeye fans do.
