The match announcer said they had around 40 shots with around 20 on goal.

That's absurd. Just shows how offensive minded & capable they are. They won this thing back in '09, so they definitely have a pedigree for building success at this age level. Considering the senior team had never made a World Cup before '06, they've made incredible feats of player development. If it wasn't for that blatant Suarez handball & ensuing Gyan penalty miss, who knows what they could've done at the last World Cup.

Gold Cup
Group A - Match Day 1

Canada 0:1 Martinique
A golazo at the death provides the margin of victory.

Mexico 1:2 Panama
A deserved win for Panama, as Mexico continues their poor run of form with their B-team.

With the tournament's format of 8/12 group stage teams moving on to the knockout stage, nobody is really eliminated after just one game. With just one game though Panama has probably clinched advancement if not put themselves in position to win the group.

It will be interesting to see what finally proves to be the breaking point that ends Chepo's tenure as manager of Mexico. This match shouldn't be it, but if and when we finally look back on how things end for him, this could prove to have been a decisive moment.

I'm not sure why people (and the teams) are downplaying this Gold Cup to such an extent. In past years this would have been an off-year in terms of Confederations Cup qualification. The format is a bit different now - the 2013 and 2015 Gold Cup winners (provided they are different teams) will have a playoff game to decide the berth. This is a good opportunity for whoever wins it to secure their place in that playoff. It's also a good opportunity for the team that wins it to make another run in 2015 and make that playoff moot.

Bayern announce Thiago transfer - ESPNFC
A statement read: "FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich have reached an agreement over the transfer of the player Thiago Alcantara to the German club for a total of ?25 million.
Pep must've done quite a job of convincing him to join a team even deeper than Barcelona. Really felt bad for the guy, because there's no way he was going to start over Xavi. I think he made the right move in leaving Barcelona, but Bayern might not be the most ideal situation given how deep there team is as well. However, he's very familiar with Pep as he was the one who gave him the call up from the B team. That should make for an easier transition to Germany. Really like his potential as he's shown glimpses of being a tremendous player, but is guilty of trying to do things himself much to often, which was resulted in quite a few awful turnovers in his own end. Sky's the limit for him though. Really hoping he can become a great player as the potential is definitely there.

His younger brother, Rafinha (20), has even more praise about his potential, but he's only featured in a couple games for Barcelona, so the jury remains out. He was just loaned out to Celta de Vigo for this upcoming season as was just about the entire Barcelona B team to get playing time in La Liga as they had nothing left to prove in the Segunda Division.

So, a player who wants PT goes to a team that has Schweinsteiger, Gotze, and Martinez, when he could have gone to a team whose best midfielder is Michael Carrick???? Don't understand that. As a United fan, really disappointed to lose Thiago, since he's a stud and we need a high quality midfielder. That said, at least they know he's not available, and they can look at other options.

Exactly my same thoughts. I think Pep was the deciding factor when it came down to it. It doesn't make sense at all from his biggest need which is PT, but I can understand wanting to play for a manager you're very familiar with.

I think there might be an unknown factor with David Moyes, as in people may not know what to make of him yet as United manager.

With Pep, they might be able to gauge him from his Barca days.

There wasn't that same unknown with Alex Ferguson as there is with Moyes. It will probably be totally different after just one season with Moyes. They might be able to get a gauge.

I want Chelsea to sign Ebenezer Assifuah. Everytime he got the ball in the u20 cup he was a dangerman.
I was really impressed with Ali Adnan, the LB for Iraq. Was extremely dangerous every time he got forward, which was very often and was also very adept in his own end as well. Great set-piece taker too. Not often to see wide backs as sticking out to you in youth tournaments, but he certainly did to me.

Cavani completes move to PSG - ESPNFC
Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has signed for Paris Saint-Germain in a deal believed to be worth around ?64 million.
No worries, Merih, PSG ended up paying that outrageous sum for you. I'm really interested to see what Ibra thinks of this. Can these two really mesh together ? I guess we'll find out, but wouldn't be surprised to see him on the move again. Good luck winning headers in the box with these two on the prowl.

PSG showed signs it could hang with the best of 'em last season, so I'm beginning to think they're going to be a real contender for the UCL now. Even with managerial change, there's too much talent on this squad for them not to challenge. They need to sure up there defense for starters, but they have a perfect mix of speed, finesse & power up front now. Not to mention playing in Ligue 1 shouldn't drain there batteries all that much come the knockout round.
