Yeah, sometimes a great position coach doesn't always transition to being a great coordinator. Ryan Day is an offensive guy and is undoubetedly relying on Coombs and his position coaches to run the defense. I'd like to see Day ask Coombs what defensive adjustments he made during the game and why. Then I'd like to see Day ask his defensive analyst (and former Iowa State HC and DC at 4 different P5 schools) Paul Rhodes what adjustments he would have made and why. Day could evaluate the 2 lists and go from there.

My point is that there is a ripple effect that can cause negative systematic down the road.

This is the weird thing to me…

Our guys are still highly coveted at next level even though the system is getting gashed.

To me, it’s a clear sign we have the talent. But the system is broken.

The problem is if we continue to get wrecked defensively, the talent will start to look elsewhere. And then we’re really fucked…..they have to get their arms around this.

I don’t care what they’re saying publicly to be honest. Ryan Day is a smart dude and he sees it. I believe he’ll get it fixed. Unfortunately, he probably waited 1 off-season too long.
