FOX BCS Coverage...Thoughts?

Jaxbuck

Best thing I heard from an announcer so far this Bowl season was from White. To paraphrase; "We keep hearing all this talk about speed, which conferences have it and which don't. Let me just tell you, they all do."

I thought that was the best comment the whole day from any channel or broadcast team. Any big time college program (if intelligent) will definately have speed where appropriate.

I actualy enjoyed it. Thom and Alvarez were good, and the other guy was ok but he called for the deep ball too much. I loved Thom's emotion while he was calling the game.

I could do without Chris Rose on the pregame show, but he Switzer and Johnson were ok.

Thom and Barry Alvarez are great together, the rest was ok. Ok is a big upgrade over the crap ESPN/ABC was giving us.

I agree with most of what you said.

I'm amazed there was enough room in the building for Switzer's and Johnson's egos....

I'm kind of shocked no one dropped a HOLY SHIT during either the hook and ladder play or the statue of liberty play....I know I was....

From a purely technical perspective I thought the 720P HD presentation was sub-par (when compared to ABC). I noticed a lot of "noise" in the dark areas especially the out of focus stuff. At times it almost looked like SD upsized to HD with all the artifacts and pixilation showing. Comparing it to the Rose Bowl yesterday there was a pretty big difference in quality.

Another thing I like about Fox's coverage is they actually show some of the bands playing! MAYBE we'll get to see script Ohio!!!

I like seeing the bands during halftime too (it's better than listening to the pundits spout off nonsense) -- but it has to be said that ABC showed a lot of the bands at the Rose Bowl yesterday as well.

FOX coverage sucks!

I get so damn sick and tired of immediately after a play, FOX feels that it is necessary to show a coach (or both coaches), the band (or both bands), fans in the stands, back to a coach, close-up on a player, etc. It is all too rare to actually see a replay of the play!

Also, I kinda like to see when a measurement is taking place, or when a flag has been thrown to have it acknowledged and then commentating on where it occurred when the replay is being shown. But that can't happen when you have to show the coaches, bands, fans in the stands, wtc. before the next snap!

By and large I couldn't care less about the commentators, I "watch" to see what is happening. I don't need so many shots of the fucking coaches, band members, fans, close-ups of a player--who may or may not have been instrumental in the prior play, I don't know because I didn't get a replay!-- show the game and replays and different angles and I am happy. All of the useless crap that is shown between plays has me wondering if the producer has A.D.D.

Give me the Rose Bowl crew over the Fox guys anyday!

Amen bro!

I had the same feeling. There would be a play I wanted to see a replay of but would never get to see it because they would have some random crowd shots or would immediately go to a commercial. The camera work seems to be better tonight, but it will probably be the same by next Monday.

Does the replay booth use the television coverage to reach their decision. If they do, that might worry me because in watching the game last night and watching the game tonight, there haven't been many good camera angles on the plays that have been reviewed. Two that come to mind right now are the Ian Johnson possible fumble last night and the Louisville fumble near the start of the third quarter. Hopefully they work on that because it would suck for the game to be decided on a bad review because there wasn't conclusive evidence due to bad camera angles.

The coverage had it's ups and downs the last two nights. I like Barry and I think he will be fair next Monday. As for Brown I don't really mind him but he does talk alot and at times finds himself so out of things to say that he says things that come back to bite him later. For example, midway through the third quarter he spends a break in play telling us about how Boise State came in here as David and has beaten OU straight up, he goes on to say they haven't had to use trick or gimmick plays. REALLY? That didn't hold up for four quarters did it? Chris Myers is in a word AWFUL, I know it is a meaningless plug for Tostitos but did anyone watch the throw for $100,000 between the 3rd and 4th? That mess sums up him in a nutshell, it was like a terrified kid being forced to speak in front of a group for the first time. Fox has to know GUYS watch football, hire Erin Andrews, Sam Ryan or even Stacy Dales (Just teach her it's Script Ohio first), PLEASE. Orange Bowl gets Laura, we get Chris Myers?

The cameramen getting fooled on the fakes continued tonight during the Orange Bowl, it's getting a little annoying now. Needs to be fixed, and the camera with the burnt out lens on the sideline? Not good at all.

With that said, as long as I can see the Bucks play I will deal with anything. Leaving for vacation in Florida of all places on Sunday, watching the game with the Alumni watch group in Orlando. Can't wait to wear my 10 jersey with pride on January 9th in the Sunshine State.
