Game Thread Game Five: Penn State 17, Ohio State 10 (Final)

Offensive coaches lost this game. It just makes me sick that we have 2 losses with the talent on this team. Yes, Hamby screwed up but why the heck is an average at best blocking TE taking on the other team's best defensive lineman.

I disagree... Coaches did not lose this game....
I agree with the talent.. too much to lose to an OK Penn State team

Troy Smith played a lousy game IMO.

How is it the Northwestern can score 27 and we can only get 10?

It's called a good defense. It makes you look bad. We had some great drives, and our WRs were open A LOT, but their pressure made it really hard to get them the ball.

You made my point for me, our offense is not good enough with Troy at quarterback to put points on the board on a consistent basis against an above average defense.

We made Penn State look like world beaters out there on defense, they are solid, but still gave up I think 30+ points against Northwestern.....

Scrap the spread.

Refs gave Penn State the Game

How many times did the refs not call offensive holding on drives that resulted in touchdowns for Penn State????

How anciently slow were the refs to put the ball down at the end of the game?

How many times was the ball spotted short for the Bucks and long for Penn State?

I really don't want to look back at this game, but the homefield advantage was more than it ever should be.

We played like shit and got royally fucked by the refs all night. That was the worst shit I have seen in a long time. Did they ever fucking call holding on PSU? We got tackle on multiple occasions and nothing was done about it. The way they handled the end of that game should be a crime, there was no way PSU should have been able to kill that much time with us still having 1 timeout. They should had at least had to kick the ball to us and we have the return game to at least make it worth a shot. Someone needs to make a copy of this game and sent it to the NCAA cause this was absolutely a disgraceful display by the officials. Complete bullshit in my opinion.

And I will say this now, Troy Smith played the worst game I have seen in a while. There is no way he has earned that position with just his play. I know noone wants to talk about it but Zwick is getting hosed by not getting to compete for the job. Smith has done nothing to show me he deserved that job over Zwick.

Thats all and well, theres a thing called playing the hype, the bucks played the hype tonight and lost. Penn havent suddenly transformed into a powerhouse after two losing seasons.

They've clrearly rebuilt/reloaded over the past few years... It is entirely possible to become great after one or two down years. Their 6-0 record clearly says that they have! If you remember, our 2004 season wasn't exactly great and yet we were supposed to contend this year!

The worst thing about this loss is I loved OSU for the power running with big play receivers and now I have to watch what I believe to be one of the worst spread offensive teams ever. I mean a good offensive coordinator does not come up with gimmicks they just know how to call a game. I mean the reverse to Ginn...everyone in the entire stadium and at home knew it was coming. Just an ugly, ugly team. I love Tressel but thank God our defense is so tough because this offense is ugly year in and out.

did any of you watch this game? I realize BN is probably too full of flamers to post over there, but how many times did our blockers miss assignments?

It's called a good defense. It makes you look bad. We had some great drives, and our WRs were open A LOT, but their pressure made it really hard to get them the ball.

We lost barton. Our OT got dominated all game long.name ONE time he ran first. Just one. I'd love to hear it. It NEVER happened. At least come up with an intelligent reason to bash him.

Are you kidding me??? He takes one look at his primary receiver and if he's covered he's going to take off. Yes, every now and again he will force himself to look down to his secondary receivers (and my goodness does it look forced). Hell, he even threw to Pittman tonight for a first down. When is the last time an Ohio State QB threw to a running back? The spring game?
It's not entirely his fault. The coaches are trying to force a square peg into a round hole here.

our running game was effective, both with troy and pittman. But giving up sack after sack, or penalty after penalty, produces ugly situations. And we aren't good enough to overcome that many of those.

Our OL lost this game, plain and simple. I'll keep my views on Bollman to myself.

Smith has done nothing to show me he deserved that job over Zwick

In my opinion, Troy is the starter because he beat Michigan last year, his performance so far this year does not justify Zwick not getting a chance to compete for the job again....but thats been rehashed to much. The staff has made their choice now they will have to live with it.

The last half of 2002 and all of 2003 we watched no talent RB;s make human suposetories of themselves and the offense in general be a clinic on how NOT to run the power I.

Foreward to 2004 to present, lots of skill players running around in space and in all kinds of really cool formations but still running a clinic on how NOT to do it.

I'm sorry, the offensive woes are spread across too many years, too many players and too many schemes to be laid at the feet of anyone but JT.

I love him as our coach but its time for a real offense and a real offensive coordinator.
