Game Thread Game Four: Ohio State 31, Iowa 6 (final)

what a performance! first time since '76 that the QB and RB both went over 100... first time since '00 with two 100 yard rushers... first time that the O cracked the 500 yard mark in the Tressel era, and the most yards since Illinois or scUM '98, i believe... the 31-6 looks nice, but DAMN! we were SO CLOSE to the score being 52-6! do you think that would have impressed the voters? :yow2: :banger:

the D is fucking LIGHTS OUT! seriously, '02 was a dominant D... '98 was a dominant D... '96 was the best D that i can remember, of course i am aware of the 5.7 PPG allowed by Woody's stop troops back in '74, but i wasn't born yet... but this could very well end up as the best Ohio State defense of all time... i honestly believe that... it is at least top 5 already...

all in all, it was a very good game in all three aspects of the game... of course the kids need to work on hanging on to the rock, but i think that this game, while being VERY positive and confidence building, there were just enough screw-ups to keep the kids hungry...

we ain't losing a game until 2006 at the earliest...

SIDEBAR: Javon Ringer had 193 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Sparties today. :yow2: :yow2: :yow2:

Yep, -9 rushing, 146 passing. 137 total.

Talk about an awesome Defensive performance.

How about the fact our 1st string D is allowing 8.75 ppg through the 1st 4 games?

Many impressive defensive stats to throw around right now but ultimately it comes down to scoring D and 16 of our 51 total aren't on the 1st string D.

great game guys, i didn't get to watch it, but the final score says it all
<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Made some mistakes, turnovers, etc. However, much improved......I usually dont toot our horn much (not one of those homers :biggrin: ), but our defense is ridiculous.

How is the hurricane btw? Everything ok down yonder?

Well, we sure smacked the shit out of them. Not a lot of teams that can hang with us when the D plays like that. Of course, a completely dominating victory could have been worse on the scoreboard if not for the turnovers, but no complaining from here.

What a great win...we NEEDED that kind of performance in the WORST way to set the tone for the rest of the year.

Think anyone wants to play us now?

Observations from C Deck.

A few quick comments:

1. The game wasn't nearly as close as the score might imply. If we wouldn't have fumbled we could have bet them 63-0.

2. The defense was completely stifled the Iowa offense.

3. The offensive line opened some holes for the runners; and Pitman and Smith took advantage of them.

4. The real Troy Smith showed up for the first time this year. I think he has shaken off all the "rust". Hope he continues to improve.

5. Gonzales has to be the "best #3 receiver in the country".

6. Schittker definitely needs to learn to hold on to the ball.

7. Too bad about the blocking call on Ginn's punt return. I'm anxious to see him or Holmes score on a return.

8. We didn't see the same Tate we saw last year at Iowa. Maybe he still had some effects of the concussion he suffered against Iowa State.

9. Iowa coach post game comment: Asked what his biggest concern was, Ferentz cracked: "Getting home safely."

10. We are on a roll, too bad next week is a bye.

Edit: P.S. I finally won a vBet on this game. Tonite I'll buy the first round of drinks at the vVarsity Club. Just put your drink on my vTab.:lol::lol::lol:

Come on here Joe Pa, we are waiting for you

:oh::io:

Well, we go down there, but I guarantee you they don't want ANY part of us considering. They had a nice comeback today, and they may very well get to a Bowl this year, but they aren't really ready to compete with us again yet.

That said, a night game down there is always tough sledding, so there will be no blow-out, but after watching some of PSU/NW, I'd say we are playing better in every phase of the game.

Man, I just love it when the Buckeyes dominate a team that some people pick to beat 'em. Watching Drew Tate spike the ball in anger was truly a thing of beauty to behold!

I agree with all except for #6: I respectfully would say that Schnittker should not see the ball again with a meaningful carry.

And as for #8, it actually could have been the same Tate: he had no help and no blocking, and our D was way better.

Great game. Had to work a bit around halftime, but it was fantastic to come back and see we were up by 24. The Iowa fans I sat near think Hawk is great and the other LBs might be pretty good, too... astute observations all around. Prolly shouldn't have burst out laughing when they showed the rushing stats... but oh, well. :)

Pittman looked very good out of the gate. There is something about watching Maurice Wells run, though... get the sense that something big could happen at any time, much like watching TGII. Nice to see Troy not hurry so much... he looked so much more comfortable today. I know I was... :) And big cheers for Holmes and Gonzo!

Can we play Texas again, please? Can we, huh, can we?
