I never thought at the time the football program would experience so much success in the following years; however, a probable victory over OSU is what will finally gain Miami the national attention it has so deserved for the past few seasons. Nevertheless, since this is my first post, I would like to thank the members of MHT for providing such an informative and intelligent discussion board (a welcome respite from other boards where members engage in very little intelligent discussion, but would rather attempt to disparage those with differing opinions). Finally, I remeber a poster (a supposed Miami student/former student?) on bucknuts about a month ago stating Miami students are the most apathetic fans and care nothing about Miami athletics, but would prefer to sit at home on gameday and watch the OSU A&M Aggies rather than mater Miami. I would just like to say that if anything, support for Miami athletics (at least for football) was at its highest point ever when I graduated (during my years at the university), and I will always live and bleed Redhawk blood (at least on game day). Anyway, look forward to participating in discussion, and can't wait until Sept. 3.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Wow. It's probable that Miami will defeat OSU. This concerns me comming from such a great source. I mean he's a "Finance major" and "volunteered for HSJ as sports writer for two years". Far be it for me to question someone with such credentials.
NOW I'M WORRIED!

Yeah, that's exactly the type of insanity I'm talking about. Sounds like a lot of Miami fans have delusions of granduer. I'm cautiously optomistic that the Buckeyes will ass-rape them back to reality, we're getting a W regarless. The people on that board are making what would have been just a standard victory into one I will savor so I'll have to rember to thank them on Sept. 4th.

bluesman

While I love our LB's and think they are one of the top 10 units in the country, at least size wise when looking at NFL LB's, our guys are more safety size. Nande is 6'1" 230, Busing 6'3" 228, and Rehage 6'3"239. Derek is the only one who has true NFL LB size. Our backups are even smaller. Now as said above, size doesn't mean a whole lot but compare our guys to OSU and you do see a significant height and weight difference. That said, Nande would kick the crap out of Carpenter and Hawk!!
This has to be the most delusional comment. I did laugh out loud when I read this. I understanding supporting your team but............get back down to earth guy

Haha! This only confirms what we've known all along - "Public Ivies" don't have smarter people just a collective overinflated sense of superiority.

"Miami has the smartest students in the state."
"Miami is the best party school in the state."
"Miami is better at football."

Do you have to be completely full of shit to get admitted to MU, or is that something that they teach you there?

Oh, and what's up with all of them calling OSU the "Ohio A&M Aggies"? I know the history and everything, but is that supposed to be some kind of insult? Pretty damn weak, especially from the point of veiw of a former CFAES student and ag fraternity alum.

As a Miami alum, I'm absolutely amazed at what has been said over there. Hunter is NOT the NFL caliber corner they make him out to be. He has speed and that's it. I'm still pissed about his poor play against Iowa State as he almost single handedly cost them the game. Nande is good and a physical freak but is not in the same league as Hawk, Carp, Schlegal and Freeman. I keep hearing about these devestating hits he makes but after watching five or six games last year I don't know where they're at. He seems to go unnoticed for long periods of time, not good for a LB. As far as Betts goes, he's no Ben. He seems to get rattled very easily and his desicion making is questionable, IMO.

Yeah, Betts is a great QB. Right. Let's look at his statline the last time he faced a Big Ten opponent:

18 for 36, 201 yds, 0 TD, 4 INT

And that was against scUM, a defense which, as we all know, Troy totally ripped apart.

Generally speaking, it's as if these Miami fans think their team belongs in the same sentence with Ohio State and the other Big Ten teams. What a joke. Don't they realize that for all their bold predictions, they're talking about a team that had losses last year to Marshall, UC, Iowa St., scUM, and Toledo?

"Miami has the smartest students in the state."

Huh... weird.... You know, I applied and was accepted to Miami... so I thought I'd go down there and check it out... I think I was EVEN wearing a J-Crew Sweater on the visit...and I didn't like those assholes.

Anyway... On the Fake list:

Smartest Students? Doubt it, I almost went to Case Western... but decided they were dorks... dunno if they are the smartest students in the state or not... but defintiely smarter than the Miami kids.

Best Party School? Doubt that too... I think they might want to check out thier evil green and white soon to be better at football cousins in Athens.... which is where I did go to school for a couple years... its devastating party scene led this once over qualified boozer to go to....

The best football School in the state... I don't think I need to elaborate on that.

Anyway... Nande would kick the Crap out of who?

I hope, for their sake he can kick the crap out of [Insert 320 pound O-linemans name here].... do they know that Linebackers aren't on the firled at the same tiem very often?... Just wondering.

My favorite stuff is how they ramble on about they're offensive line... but they can't seem to run the ball... and they like to use the phrase, "The last time we had a front line like this.... [insert near loss to someone good]."

Yeah... well... the last time you had a front line like that, your offensive line coach wasn't our recruiting coordinator....

I'll give 'em credit... they are teh cradle of coaches... tons of guys came out of there to be great somewhere else.

I think the problem wih them is that they do ahave a couple pretty damn good guys at a few different positions.. even some NFL caliber guys... the problem is, we've got NFL Caliber guys at like 15 or 18 spots (of 22).

[coxew... I say all the preceding with the utmost respect toward you, of course :wink2: ]

BuckeyeBoy, you have a link for those rankings? I'd love to be able to post that over there just to have some fun with those arrogent pricks. They melt down every time somebody suggests OSU is equal to them in academics, imagine what they'll do when it's a national source telling them that.

You can tell game day is getting closer. Tempers are really starting to flare over there at MTH. Wish a few brave redhawks would come over here and discuss. I guess it's only fair that the arguments stay on their homefield as the game will be on ours.

I would think yall would just want a win and hold a lot of your offensive package back (to hide from Texas eyes). I mean you're not going to want to risk any injuries or anything like that either. Coming into the game with that philosophy, a few mental mistakes and they may be up 10 points. And they're not bad enough to just take off the pedal at half-time if yall are up 21-7 like Iowa or Texas will be able to do. Don't get me wrong, I think yall will win, but I think looking ahead to the Texas game may be troubling. I am glad Texas has a cupcake the week before. Since this is a decent team, will Tressel have to reveal some of what he has been working on duringt he off-season?

What are yalls thoughts?

If we played Iowa 2nd, this game 3rd, and Texas 4th, then I could see the "overlooking Miami" being a reality. But this is the first game of the season.

OSU ended on a tear against some good teams, and is out to prove that wasn't a fluke. Zwick and Boeckman can run an effective spread offense, and I don't think there is anyway they have the athletes to stay with Gonzalez at the 3rd WR spot.

They are talented but a little undersized, and I think we should be able to wear them out by the end of the 3rd quarter.
