Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 34, Miami of Ohio 14 (final)

I watched Miami of Ohio play Iowa State in their bowl game. I wasn't very impressed. We would have beaten Iowa State worse than we beat Okie St.
The worse performance of the year by Miami, IMO. I thought the announcement to the team that Montgomery was going to be their next coach just minutes prior to kickoff would inspire them. Instead, it looked like they got to high and got sloppy. That's not the same team we'll face.

Ignorance is bliss?

... from Miamihawktalk.com

"The thing with Ginn's returns is that he had open field on almost all of them. he's quick get up and down the field, but he rarely had to evade tackelrs because of tOSU's superior special teams blocking. On the other hand, RR has had to create his own holes, showing his ridiculous agility and quickness. I think Ginn is way overrated as a player, especailly as a returner, for this reason."

Wow.....

"Strength of the offense: Experience, offensive line, receivers
Weakness of the offense: Running game

There's little overall experience among the reserves, but the running game won't be a weakness and should be fine at keeping the heat off Josh Betts and the passing attack.
Player to keep an eye on: Brandon Murphy, Soph. ... Running back rating: 6"

Uhhh...

now way does Miami's running game keep OSU from keeping them in long distance situations. I think OSU will shut down their run and force the pass, and after that we can just pin our ears back. You have to remember also they might have to abandon the run if we take a comanding lead.

alot of people think we very well could lose this game because we are looking ahead to texas, and to an extent thats understandable, however i think there is no way we lose this game, or come close, we are definantly more talented at every single position, and we have much better depth, we have more speed and power more everything, the one player that should get any recognition on their d is terna nande and ill give him his props, they also do have a good return man but they dont stand a chance

Still, this game is scary, because Miami is the class of the MAC this year. They have a lot of NFL prospects on that team, and Tyler Everett will be thrown into the fire right away at CB. Still, a lot of us were worried about the Cinci game, and Ohio State won convincingly 27-6. I think that this'll be close for awhile, but the Buckeyes will slowly pull away, something like 31-14.

Zwick or Boeckman will be on a mission to prove themselves... plus I really don't see how you overlook the first game of the year. They've been waiting to prove themselves all year, to set the stage for the Texas game. Zwick, Pittman, Everett/Welch, Richardson, Huston, Trapasso, and many others are looking to prove themselves.

Maybe if this were a 3rd game between Texas and Iowa, I could see overlooking the game. But the "overlooking" fear seems to be one based on stereotypes.

The votes are in and there is little doubt which teams the will be this year's MAC football media darlings. Toledo and Bowling Green were the overwhelming choices in the MAC preseason poll.
WEST
1. Toledo
2. Northern Illinois
3. Eastern Michigan
4. Central Michigan
5. Western Michigan
6. Ball State

EAST
1. Bowling Green
2. Miami
3. Ohio
4. (tie) Akron
4. (tie) Kent State
6. Buffalo

Only a Miami fan would be so stupid to write such a ridiculous paragraph. Didn't that guy see Ginn's punt return for TD against scUM? There's no way anyone could say with a straight face that Ginn caught that punt in the open field.

Yeah, cruising their message boards just makes me hope we stomp the Redhawks into the ground by 14+. These are some of the most delusional fans I've ever come across. I've read talk on how their LB corp is almost as good as ours , how Ryne Robinson is better on ST than Ginn, and even how their secondary can match up against our WR's one on one. I expect them to come and play a game and so should their fans but to talk about the game as "money in the bank" for Miami, one can only shake their head in wonder about comments like that. Oh, and after all of that, apparently we're the arrogant ones. If it's going to be like that then all I can say is:

 here's to smacking the shit out of another inferior in-state team.

Their fans think their secondary can match up with our WRs? That's a joke. Miami fans think that we shouldn't judge them based on their poor performance against Iowa St. in the bowl game, but I watched their defense play an equally bad game against Akron. Charlie Frye totally ripped their secondary to shreds, throwing for over 430 yards, with 3 TD and 0 INT. I know that Frye's a good QB, having been selected in the 3rd round of the draft and all, but if Miami fans think for a second that a secondary that let The University of Akron rip them apart is going to give our stellar WR corps of Holmes, Ginn, and Gonzalez problems, then they are clueless about college football.
