Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 38, Youngstown St. 6 (final)

I didn't see the game (no BTN on my provider), but is it a concern to anyone that Boeckman threw almost exclusively to Robo during the majority of the game?

That's obviously less than ideal, if it happens again next game... but my question is this: Was Boeckman having tunnel vision? Or was Robo that open?

Hey guys I got to watch the game today so here's what I saw and think of our team.

1. Todd Boeckman might not be as good as troy but one thing he does better is throw the deep ball. He was laying them perfectly and if Sazenbacher (spelling) would've caught his deep ball I think he might've been perfect with it.

2. It does concern me that Todd threw exclusively to Robiskie but as someone said he was THAT open at times. Todd did show good check down skills and in many of the replays they showed his head on a swivel (he was going through reads) so maybe its just that Robiskie was making plays. We'll see soon enough however when someone doubles #80.

3. The run defense is much much better and the tackling is far better than last year. Although this was YSU, I was impressed with how the whole defense was around the ball at every tackle. One thing the defense didn't seem to have a whole lot of success at though is when the QB was folloing lead blockers. Once YSU's back-up QB came in and ran down hill at us we were giving up some yards (our 2nd/3rd string were in).

4. Although our defense is far improved IMO I get the feeling that this secondary and defense isn't going to cause as many INT's or Fumbles. They just seem like the 2005 defense (which doesn't bother me) were they play smart and fast and limit other teams yardage.

5. The freshman today showed me something. Brandon Saine will be getting big time carries this year. He has power, big time speed, makes good cuts, and has decent vision. The freshman recievers played pretty good but Dane has got to hold on to the passes a little better he dropped 2 potentially big gains.

6. Beanie Wells is probably still suffereing a bit from the ankle. He seemed hesitant and wasn't getting his size running down hill, but I think after not really taking much contact the last few weeks thats to be expected. Watch, he'll have a awesome game next week.

OSUsushichic's prediction: 38-6, Ohio State

I just read the Scout boards, and I thought we lost. Pathetic discussion over there. It's much better over here!

Great game. I love our freshman, and our QBs did great overall.

That's so sad about Wilson. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Oh, and :scum4:. Henne is a joke.

Just got back from the East Side Grill watching the game with 808 Buck...our OL needs serious work. Really. Those who say ours is the best in the conference need to watch our game tape. We have a long way to go there...

My Pro's and Con's:

Pro's:

B. Saine- He showed good balance and speed and impressive vision. I was a bit skeptical of him but he's going to make me look silly for ever doubting him.

Boeckman- He's got better touch than Troy. It's a must that our o-line gives him time because he isn't going to make much happen with his feet.

Freshmen receivers- Washington, Sanzenbacher, and Torrence all had grabs today and seem wise beyond their years.

Pass protection- The o-line did a good job keeping guys off the QB most of the game.

Thad Gibson- Physical freak who's making an impact on special teams.

Robiskie- Our next 1st round receiver.

Con's:

Wilson- He was playing well then suffered a terrible injury. Rose is going to have to really step it up and be a rock for us.

Run blocking- There were very few big holes like we saw last year. This group appears to be a notch down from last year.

Chris Wells- Didn't look like himself minus that one carry where he was carrying defenders. Maybe because of a nagging injury.

I agree, but that first long ball sailed a bit and second well ... should of caught that one. It was a bullet and would have been a TD. I don't think I would have been able to get off the floor if he would scored twice.

Good day for Dane and his freshman buddies!!

An a little stickum next week.

http://www.bigtennetwork.com/news/article.asp?list_id=1&story_id=797

Dane Sanzenbacher and Taurian Washington, a pair of prized freshmen wide-outs, each scored on their first career receptions, Sanzenbacher's coming on a 3-yard toss from Boeckman and Washington's covering 37 yards from Antonio Henton.
Another freshman, Brandon Saine, the reigning Mr. Football in Ohio, also was part of the coming-out party with 42 yards rushing on 10 carries including a 1-yard touchdown plunge. He jitterbugged in and out of traffic on a 16-yard TD run late in the third quarter that was called back by a holding call.

This is going to be a very good football team. Very proud to see the kids doing so well. This is when tOSU football is the best, looking forward to next week already, and the next bunch of surprises.
