I don't think we need to worry about VY as much as people think...the only time last year I saw anything impressive out of him was the Michigan game (granted, I don't exactly follow Texas)...the boy can't throw the ball, and he won't be able to get outside consistently on our LBs
Maybe, but I think you'll agree that Young is the key to that Offense.

I have a different take on the keys to this game.

I think it comes down to our O-Line vs their D-Line. Whoever wins that battle wins the game. I also see that battle as the bell-weather for our entire season. The strongest part of the Horns' defense is their D-Line. It's probably the best D-Line we'll see all season. Our O-Line struggled through much of last season, but came together toward the end. If the O-Line can carry that momentum through the Texas game, and beat a strong D-Line early in the season, I don't see anyone stopping us all year.

Go Bucks!!

lol Well actually I did think of how we had a problem ourselves at running back, but with me being a buckeye fan I'm just trying to avoid our very obvious only weakness.

I think we NEED to spy Young. We did it with all the other Mobile Qb's so why not? Vince Young is there only potent weapon. I'm sure there are others who will step up and have a solid day against us like a running back on a draw or something, but no where near to the extent where it would take pressure off of VY. Another thing we need to think of is that OSU has a more accurate mobile QB in Troy Smith so Don't be surprised if we're definatly ready for the challenge of Vince.

All in all I see this game being something like the Washington game a few years back. I think with this being at home and Texas's record of losing composer in the big games will catch up with them. That and I think again Texas won't expect us to be as fast as we really are which seems to be a huge problem with teams early on and in big games.

Last Two Games of the Season - SAVED MY LIFE!!!

Did you even watch the last two games of last season?
Hey Mili,

I did see both games, and lucky enought to watch "The Game" from the University Suite right next to the Rose Bowl President.

The last two games of the season kept me from committing "Harry Carey (sp)". I was about to go off the deep end. :-)

Hopefully "we" have figured out this whole "offensive" part of the game. Looking forward to putting it all together this year.

Peace,

He was a little wacky, but a mental institution is alittle overkill IMHO...

OSU should lay back in a zone and let Young try and beat them w/ his arm-I really don't think he can. Hawk and Carpenter are more than capable of keeping Young contained-he is dangerous, but the Rose Bowl was as much a factor of scUM being pathetic as it was Young being a freak. Troy Smith did the same thing. Young is not a very good passer, and Texas WR corp is very unproven-I'm sure there is plenty of talent, but they haven't shown anything yet. Their RB situation is pretty similar to ours. No need to blitz an inordinate amount-don't give Young an excuse to run-he will, instead of making bad throws.

UT will be more overrated this year than ever simply because they beat another overrated team in the Rose Bowl last year. The fact that they barely beat UM with Benson in the backfield tells me they're goign to need a lot more to beat OSU next year. Young isn't that great. Great, he can run. . . . . it's just the new fad in CFB . . . running QB's, but the guy can't throw to save his life. Honestly, I expect OSU to win by at least 2 TD's.

Remember also that Texas, under Mack Brown, is a fairly poor Road Team. Mack struggles on the road in Lubbock, Stillwater, Manhattan, Iowa City, Dallas, Lawrence, & College Station.

tOSU needs to play a tough 1st half, put a few good hits on VY, and make him throw the ball. VY can not beat us with his arm. If we can do that , I think Texas will wither in the 3rd & 4th.

I dont know where this whole "VY cannot throw for beans" wave came from, but I have watched a few games, and he's no Dan Marino, but he can get it downfield (vs. Kansas State) and he can get it to his TE's (Rose Bowl), and he can throw it on the run (every game). I think maybe we'd better give VY some more credit here.

As of right now, we only have ONE lockdown corner in AY, and the other new corner will be inexperienced at the corner position. Plus, Texas will probably play a west-coast style offense (minimizing the use of our CBs anyway), which COULD limit our LBs to a weak zone, thus preventing them from blitzing the outside every play like everyone is raving about.

This game will be close, but I still take OSU due to our new O-Line and a super-explosive offense.

One Problem with the Linebacker Theory is...

Our linebackers are really smart and play good disciplined position football. They tackle hard and are good football players. But they are, in all honesty, kind of slow. Young makes fools out of defensive linemen. I like the idea of rotating out D-line all game. But I still think we need more speed on VY. Maybe when VG (Biatch) says 3-3-5 that's what he means. Whadya say VG?

By the way, can people throw me some positive points? I made a stupid post a while back and I've gotten the message. I'm a Bucks fan and love this board.

Lots of run blitzing on defense and letting the QB's air it out on offense. AJ and Bobby are capable of corralling Young and not letting him break the long run. If Kudla and whomever plays the other DE position can get some pressure while containing the outside we should dominate their offensive line. If we lay back in a zone eventually we will have a break down. I think our defensive players are better suited to attacking than the bending defense of early last season.

Offensively getting the ball to TGII and Holmes early and often will have the Horns on their heels. We need whichever running back that plays to just be consistent. No lost yardage plays. 2-3 yards per carry and converting on 3rd and short.

No errors in the kicking game and taking advantage of field position would also secure a victory in my opinion.

Now trust me if this game was in Austin, Tx. I would definatly be wondering if we'd win or not, but well this game is in the shoe. At night, and not to mention this team will most likely be ranked higher than us. I'm not saying Texas sucks because they're a very very good team. However, what I am saying is we see OSU's best against the good teams and I hope it goes the same way with this one. I'm not trying to dog texas though by anymeans I respect the program.
