Uh, ever hear of The Korean War? Totally separate and distinct for the cold war which was between the US and USSR only as the sole two superpowers

Separate and Distinct? Mili, I think you've been stealing Hitler's meth :wink2:

The whole point of the term "Cold War" is that it was a conflict with a noted absence of battles... that's not to say there were none.

My point was that in Korea there were direct engagements between American and Soviet aircraft... with Americans and Soviets at the controls... killing each other... Distinct and Separate? You think the Americans and Russians were fighting each other in Korea out of the goodness of their hearts because they wanted what was best for the inhabitants of that stupid little Peninsula? Anyway, I was just trying to address your point that there was never a direct engagement or casualty.... also, the term "Cold War" whether a media concoction or not is very apporpriate for the situation, because at some point, every condition for war was met except full scale combat....

It is impressive that Paths of Glory made #3 on that list. It is #1 in my book. The trench warfare scenes are impressive for the 1950s, the French generals are pure evil, and Kirk Douglas kicked major butt as Colonel Dax.

My list, in order
Paths of Glory
Full Metal Jacket
Blackhawk Down
Glory
The Deer Hunter
Patton
Saving Private Ryan
Enemy at the Gates-better opening scene than Private Ryan,IMO-a notch below the others otherwise
