Greatest NFL QB of all-time!!

Great NFL QB of all-time

Exactly why I picked Dan Marino. Without Dan the Dolphins would have only had mediocre to bad teams, the 49ers still would have been good. Put Dan on that 49ers team or the Cowboys of the 90's with their running games and defense and there would never be any debate over the greatest of all time!

LOL! Marino was a TERRIBLE leader!! Did he ever throw an interception that was HIS FAULT?

MARINO= Biggest cry baby QB ever!!

Marino had both Clayton and Duper for 7 years, but only three productive seasons from both of them (1000+ season benchmark). During that time, he never had a 1000 rusher. He had only 1 1000 yard rusher in his career- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1996 (Clayton and Duper long gone). Marino's best cast (1984 Super Bowl season):

Montana is another story, with the likes of Clark, Rice (the only NFL player no one argues as the greatest at his position of all time), Craig, Wersching, Jones, Taylor, Solomon, etc. Is this really an argument of supporting cast? Not to mention the defense the 49ers had. Lott, Hanks Griffin, Hardman, Haley, Board, Dean, Stover. From my years playing, I can tell you that the people around you make you better. A great LB corps is usless without a good D-Line (i.e. 2005 OSU). Is Joe Montana up there? Sure, he had to get the ball to those boys, but I'd say having Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as your best RB and Mark Clayton as your best receiver during the span of your long career keeps your stats a little weighted down. I take Marino.

How many of the players name above were on Montana's first SB win??
Ever heard of a running back by the name of Bill Ring? Joe had great players on that great run SF had but not his first win.

Still a pretty impressive roster. As good or better than any Marino team. That argument is dull, because if he had only won that one Super Bowl on amazing catch by Dwight Clark, would he still be the greatest in your book? Something tells me your argument stems from your Domer glasses being a little too green/blue (WTF, pick a color Notre Dame, will ya?). Marino had 5084 passing yards his rookie season, Montana did just over half in his first SB season. Marino could throw for 2613 with a bowling ball.
"In his 17-year career, Marino played in 242 games (240 starts) and he is 4967-8358 (59.4%) for 61,361 yards, 420 touchdowns, and 252 interceptions for an 86.4 passing efficiency rating, which ranks sixth among the all-time passing leaders … Marino holds 37 Dolphins regular season team records (49 overall, including playoffs) and is tied for four others (six, including playoffs) … He holds 24 NFL regular season records and is tied for three others … "
Marino ranks second all time in wins among quarterbacks. Because he never won the Super Bowl because of a lack of team talent means he doesn't beat out a guy named Joey with a supporting cast better than Joey on Friends?

MR INCR.- You may find it interesting that Marino would trade all of those records for just 1 of Joe's rings! The name of the game is winning after all! When it came to crunch time in the playoffs Joe threw TD passes while Marino threw interceptions. As for the roster well you might want to check that firtst one against a few of Dan's.

I will NEVER forget Marino throwing like his 5th interception in his last playoff game. Then he gave the usual scowl at a fellow Dolphin because as we all know NONE of them could have been Dan's fault.......

Even in college Joe won a NC while Marino did not.

I picked Montana because of the rings. I'm shocked that no one has picked Bradshaw. He's my #2 choice and I hate the Steelers with a passion.

Full disclosure: never saw Sammy Baugh or Otto Graham. Only saw Unitas at the end of his career when he was well past his prime.

Isn't this a discussion of who is the greatest NFL QB of all time? If you'd like, you can go back to the main forum and start a thread about QBs who you think would trade their records for a ring. If you need help, buddy, let me know. Sometimes starting those threads is kind of confusing. Replying is cake though!

Here's my take according to your perspective:
Matt Leinart is the greatest college QB of all time. Hey, he has 2 rings and almost 3. That's why. Forget the Reggie Bush, LenDale White, Dwayne Jarrett, Steve Smith, or their amazing offensive line they have. He's better than any college QB I've ever seen (now how ridiculous does that sound?)- EVER!
Marino was 39when he ended his career in that playoff game, you genius. And quit lying without any evidence to try to make a point. Marino threw two interceptions and only 95 yards in that game. 5 INT's? See here:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-hof020505&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
But get this- In his last career season (his worst by FAR statistically), Marino threw for about 150 yards less than Montana did in his first SB season. Wow, talk about a sub par performance.
I'm done with you. Your reasoning is beyond conversation. You do not have an argument nor have you raised one valid point, and considering you are a ND fan (and I assume alumnus; who else would pick that school as a preferred team unless they hopped on the bandwagon or grew up in northern Indiana?) I would expect more out of you. Your Notre Dame "supreme intellect" has failed your entire ND cult. Kind of reminds me of your discussion leading up to that bowl game. What year was that? Oh yeah, the 2006 ass kicking the Bucks laid down on Brandy ***ahem*** Brady Quinn in the Fiesta Bowl. No "fiesta" for drunken midgets with the last name O'Malley that weekend. You people make me embarrassed to be Irish.
A small dick and now this. :smash:

Mr. I - In the interest of fairness, I just thought I'd point out that at least 23 other folks have voted for Joe Montana. NDC isn't exactly a lonesome 'homer Domer' with his choice.

Now I didn't vote for him. But I'll admit that part of the reason I've always disliked Montana was because of where he went to college.

BB, I'm not pointing out the others because they haven't entered this discussion with useless arguments. ND Chief seems to be less that capable of bringing up an valid or even interesting point.

NDChief, make sure you read the end of that article on that link in my previous post. I'll post it for convenience:
"Maybe there is a lesson here. Maybe we value Super Bowls too much. Maybe the NFL has created a monster that hurts its players more than it helps them. Or maybe we are bound to criticize and forget champions and their ringless counterparts no matter what.

It's an interesting quandary. And maybe one best addressed by the people who have seen it both ways.
Not long ago, I spent some time talking with legendary Packers offensive lineman Jerry Kramer, a man who played under Vince Lombardi and was one of the bridges from a time when "NFL championship" vindication made the leap to "Super Bowl" vindication. Kramer is a Hall of Famer who achieved both distinctions, yet has bitten his lip for years over the value measurements that go with each.
"(The Super Bowl) carries too much," he said. "People want to make it the (be-all of a) career. What about all the guys (who played) before the Super Bowl existed? There are guys with all the guts of anybody who don't have a Super Bowl – greatest players ever, some of them.
"It's like a player is knocked down if they don't have a Super Bowl ring – or if they don't have two or three. That's ridiculous. It's not right to have all that weight from one thing. You can't measure everything by that." As Dan Marino and Steve Young sat at a podium Saturday, Kramer's rationale did them justice. Sadly, a future of qualifiers and a history of half-embrace will likely tend to disagree."

Whats the matter you just pissed that this board and well most of AMERICA takes Montana's side?

2 picks or 5 (and i said he had like 5 picks which meant I was not sure) he still had a chance to bring his team back and failed AGAIN. Bottom line he still blamed everyone else but himself after his last pick. And why did Marino play until he was 39? Ego, and he wanted what Joe had.

btw -Did you know that Marino had the number 1 team in the country playing with him in college and he still did not win a NC. There goes your talent excuse.
