HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

2. RYAN DAY, OHIO STATE
11013959.jpg

Age: 43

Record: 34-4 (.895) in three-plus seasons

CBS Sports: "The first Ohio State coach hired without previous head coaching experience since the 1940s has built his own powerhouse."

247Sports' Take: As an elite recruiter on the offensive side of the football, Ryan Day has a penchant for production in the passing game and has ascended through the ranks of the elite rather quickly with the Buckeyes since Urban Meyer stepped down at the end of the 2018 season. Quarterback play at Ohio State has been superb under Day and he took the Buckeyes to the national championship game against Alabama in 2020. Day's Ohio State team in 2022 could be the best of his tenure if the Buckeyes have solved notable issues defensively with several new hires. Day doesn't have a national championship yet, but it's coming.

Agreed. I’m laughing at other sites’ posters who think this number is big for 85 players. I thought it was going to be at least double that
Yeah considering starting QB at Ohio State is probably 1 million. Then throw in the elite level wr's, rb's we've had over the years is another chunk. There has been a 1st rd cb pretty often so that's another chunk. A bosa, or a young wouldn't be surprising as long as LJ is here. There you probably looking at 5-6 players taking up at least a quarter of that.

Honestly that doesn't seem unreasonable. I would've expected a higher number.

That doesn't answer the question of who is going to pay tens of millions, annually, for the Buckeyes? It's also why Saban is having a cow in Alabama.

Look for Lincoln Riley to have a very successful run in LA with the Trojans. Texas teams should rise up as well, because oil money.

Ohio State has the largest fan base in the country, many of which have vastly deep pockets. I imagine the athletic department receives millions in donations on a yearly basis. Not to mention, Ohio State has the luxury of being in Columbus, there will be plenty of commercial opportunities for Buckeyes going forward. I think you're underselling the value of Ohio State football.

Saban is worried because Alabama doesn't have any of those things in their favor to the same degree as OSU AND they don't have the luxury of Texas A&M's oil money to back them up.

I'm not underestimating Ohio State's fan base. I just know there's a lot of stupid money in places like Los Angeles. Oklahoma and Alabama (in time) are going to feel the pinch. Thankfully, Columbus continues to grow and OSU has a large fan base.

But California produces a lot of football talent, and it's going to be harder to get the next CJ Stroud or Bryce Young to leave there now.

There are A LOT of people with stupid money willing to ensure OSU is successful in football!

I think OSU fans will be more willing to ensure success than USC fans. You're making it seem like all of Los Angeles gives a damn about USC. Same goes for Miami, the city doesn't care unless they win, and win BIG! If neither of those teams doesn't win an NC in 3-5yrs, that NIL money will dry up, IMO. Donors won't keep shelling out for recruits that don't pan out, and loses in big games.
Both teams' stadiums can sell out in September, and then be ghost towns by November. You'd never see that in Columbus. I don't think raising $13+/yr will be difficult at all! I don't even think raising $30+ would be difficult if we keep winning at the same rate and get an NC.
