Houston Rockets (2x NBA Champions)

Tibbs: "Maybe b/c he only played about 30 games that year and was out of shape?"

Well, maybe if he never retired in the first place, he would've sprained his ankle in the preseason that year, returned out of shape, and lost anyway.

You're missing my point. I'm not diminishing Jordan's greatness. I'm saying that there's a very thin line between winning & losing. Jordan or Pippen could've gotten hurt, losing Ho Grant for a year could've held them back, etc. Any number of things could've happened to prevent the Bulls from winning. Its foolhardy to anoint the Chicago Bulls 8 time NBA Champions with an asterisk: *if only Jordan had played.

In this case, the very thin line was Jordan's retirement, and Hugh Hollins getting paid off by David Stern to call that bullshit foul on Pippen in the '94 East Finals so the Bricks could go.

You don't know, I don't know, nobody knows what would have happened. The Rockets won it, and they were deserving Champions.

bb73: "I'm sure that Sloops also remembers the double-nickel that MJ put up in MSG against the Knicks to get the comeback going in 1995."

FYI: I hate the Bricks with a passion, bb.

sorry....the 94 and 95 nba championships didn't happen....just like rocky 4, 5, and caddyshack 2.
No, the 1994 World Series didn't happen. The NBA didn't shut down while MJ was stinking up minor league baseball fields, and it's not the Rockets fault, either.

Houston's titles "count" as much as anyone elses.

Man, this place really needs football season...SOON!

I agree their titles are legit. However, it's kind of like someone winning a women's tennis title when Henin-Hardenne is hurt. Sure its legit, but it doesn't feel as impressive.

Wow. That comparison is way out of balance. She's tough on clay, but she's only won 4 majors, which is less than Serena, who is younger .:topic:

"Michael Jordan. Case closed."

How come that simple formula didn't work so well in '95 then? Jordan, his cases, & his clothes were beaten that year.
he wasnt in basketball shape yet.

Being a houstonian living in dallas i get in this arguement all the damn time but the simple fact is they DID win two in a row. Also there is no evidence to suggest that the rockets would have lost. Vernon Maxwell was a thorn in MJ's side. This is a very good article about this topic(it is from a biased source but uses legit stats)

This is my favorite quote from the article

After a loss on his home floor at Chicago Stadium in 1993, Jordan said, "We have no answer for the big guy. It's a good thing they won't ever make it to the (NBA) Finals, because I don't think we could beat them."

theres irrefutable evidence they would've lost. Michael Jordan. Case closed.

A better tennis comparison would be considering all of Steffi Graf's titles that were won after her German buddy stabbed Monica Seles.

My fingers don't want to type this, but:

I agree with Tibor.

What's the number for suicide prevention?

Indeed steffi would be a far better example. Boy I'm glad i'm not being born expected to live up to Agassi/Graf.

BTW, if you need the suicide #, there is a tool on ESPN's CFB board who has posted the same couple of posts about 1000 times (probably underestimating actually), one of which is the suicide prevention line in OSU after the texas game. He smells of a cane tho :)
