Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

I REALLY REALLY hope that none of our superstars are suspended for the Game next weekend. I saw one of our best, and I'm not going to name his name, throwing punches. This just sucks all around.

After reviewing the game and altercation, I can claim fairly conclusively that those were the only hits I saw Malcolm make all day.

I'm trying to keep things in perspective...but it's hard. I can't believe if we end up losing to UM next week we actually will be relegated to the Capital One Bowl....my how things can change.
Meh, that's not too bad. What makes you think we'll lose to the skunkbears all of a sudden? They just got pantsed by Wisconsin.

After today, my preference would be to play USC. I would still love to play an SEC team, though. . .

Prior to this game, I was really looking forward to seeing an Oregon Vs Ohio St. game because it would definitely be one for the ages. But after the shaky performance today by both sides of our team, I really hope Tressel bangs them back up to shape.

It was a great game though, explosive 1st quarter, and from the rest of way the Illini team all together just outplayed us.

I'm sad, but this has been a much better season than anyone predicted at the beginning. On to THE GAME! We still have the Rose Bowl within our reach. Go Bucks!

Wow....I can't believe this attitude.

I thought it would be this kind of season season, So what, they lost Gonzo and Ginn and Smith? Football is still won in the trenches and those guys were back.
Too many people don't understand this game and get caught up in the media hype. All the "experts" said this was a rebuilding year. That only showed their lack of understanding when they said this. They see OSU lose the Wr's and a Qb and think it's a rebuilding season. A rebuilding season is when you lose 4 or 5 offensive lineman and 3 or 4 defensive lineman.

I fully expected this team to be playing in the Sugar bowl. This is unacceptable...Or it should be.
But as long as we have, "Well, it was a great season", then you will continue to get these kind of "great" seasons. Or at least that is what you deserve

Defensive front 7 disappeared
Turnovers
Referees.. where were the flags... and that no-call/no-challenge was huge
and for the first time in a long time... I think our coaching hurt us

Frankly, I'd be hard pressed to say who had a good game except for maybe Beenie

That whole bullshit fumble/nonfumble in the first quarter...who knows how that could have changed the entire momentum of the game, but you know what? If you can't stop the same play like 10,000 times in a row (it felt like) then you don't deserve to win, and we didn't. We had 3rd and 6+ what...3 times? on the final drive, and they ran the QB draw every time, and no one tackled him. Simple as that. We got pushed around on our home field, and that hasn't happened in a while. Time to man up (like Michigan did after the first 2 weeks), glove up, dig in, and show that this week, and not this season's record, was a fluke by pasting the assclowns next weekend.

On a side note, Boeckman seemed to decide he was going to add an extra dimension to the arsenal tonight by running the ball several times down the field, which is great, but the more he ran the poorer he threw. I prefer what he was doing before.

My grandfather died a few years back. Sorry but that was the worst day ever. This is just football.

Well said. Was a great run. Give IL credit. We've got to figure out how to defend that kind of attack.

Just football... We've all got our families and friends. tOSU football is just icing on the cake. Don't get wrong... I'm as messed up over this as anyone... but in perspective...

So, then... 'been since the 50's since both TSUN and tOSU lost going into The Game. Another poster said something like "tOSU plays for the NC while TSUN plays for the B10 championship. If tOSU doesn't get to the NC game, the B10 is a consolation prize." All in all... not a bad consolation prize. But we need to put a nail in LLLLLoyd's coffin.

Still a proud Buckeye. Still proud that my oldest child's first recognizable word came over Thanksgiving dinner at his grandfather's house (who is a TSUN fan) was "Buck-a." Even prouder that it was his grandfather who figured out what he was saying at 9-months old. It was the 14-0 season after all. The poor kid didn't have a chance.

Our defense is designed to stop the spread. It's small and quick. Illinois capitalized on some things Wiscy and PSU exposed which is that we're weak up the middle.

Yep and I have a feeling Lloyd and his boys may have noticed by now.

My Observations:

1. The booth ref should be fired for missing the obvious fumble.
2. The lack of the absolutely blatant no calls for holding. Their is no way the 9th most penalized team commits only 1 holding call.
3. The 2nd touchdown for Illini there was a blatant downfield block to take out our DB on the crossing routes.
4. The coaches failed to make necessary adjustments on defense. I am still pulling my hair out over how many 3rd down conversions they converted. Atleast 5 or 6 on the last drive.
5. Good news: We are young and should have an even better team if the Juniors stay.
6. TSUN still sucks and we can go in their house and win the big ten enroute to then win the Rose Bowl.

I love the Buckeyes. I am just dissappointed.

What we've learned (a couple times unfortunately) this year is that JT is far from flawless. This is twice this (calender) year he has been thoroughly outcoached...once by Ron friggin' Zook. I love the guy, he's one of the best, but he is most definately human, no matter what many of us like to think.
