Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

Looks like they are very motivated to play us.

Illinois no longer bottom feeder

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Since winning the Big Ten in 2001, Illinois had been a conference bottom feeder in football. It seemed odd, then, that coach Ron Zook was upbeat and loose a few days before his 2-7 Illini were to face No. 1 Ohio State last season.
A thrashing at the hands of Troy Smith and Co. loomed, but Zook didn't see it that way and neither did his players.
"We're coming along as a football team," safety Kevin Mitchell said then. "We can be dangerous."

Honestly I don't give two shits what some body writes/says about the illini coming into this game thinking they can win. Everybody thinks they can win every game.
Momentum from thumping Minnesota...I really don't care about that shit either. You want momentum? how about 37 wins in the last 41 games!!
That's wonderful that it took them four years to figure out how to play like a team and win. But tOSU has been The TEAM the last 4 - 6 years and the illini are going to find that out on sat. Be careful what you wish for Zook, JT won't let this TEAM forget what almost happened last year.

Any team that steps on the field with the Buckeyes has a belief they can win, if they don't believe in themselves, then they shouldn't even bother showing up. tOSU gets every teams best game even when we're not ranked #1, so what's the difference?!?! are these thinking we're gonna let em tip-toe into Ohio Stadium and trip us up?! Think Again!!!

Continuing with the trend, for Illinois week, the BP torrent crew will be serving up the 1995 Illinois game. This would be THE game in which Eddie George set the school's single game rushing record by shredding the Fighting Illini's defense led by Simeon Rice for 314 yards and 3 touchdowns. Other highlights include music by MC Hammer and Jack Arute with hair!

excellent, coqui, you got the joke!

No way Illinois wins this Saturday --- I give you two words:

SENIOR DAY.

Not to mention, as I've said before, Juniors-Headed-To-The-NFL Day.

As Barton says, getyour foot on their throat early and squash 'em.

Give Zook the Ziggy

Go Bucks!

I remember how Leman completely owned our offense last year. I also remember how our OL is playing much better this year, our quarterback is perhaps just as comfortable in the pocket, and our running back punishes linebackers like a Mack truck plowing full-steam into a trash can.

I think Illinois will give us a game for a while, but as long as we keep feeding Chris and let Todd make his reads, I don't think they can stop our offense. Rashard Mendenhall is going to go berserk, I just have a feeling, but with Jenkins on Benn, when we inevitably force Illinois to win with the passing game, we'll come out ahead.

I was just over at fightingillini.com and reading about how this will be the third tough rushing defense Illi has gone up against (Indiana and Penn State being the other two) and the Illini rushed for over 200 yards both times. Also, J Leman (buy a vowel?) has like 6,000 tackles this year.

I propose:
1. we run right at Leman all day --- Beanie and MO right behind Tyler Whaley or Dionte.... just knock the fudge out of J.....

2. We defend run first, stop Mendenhall, contain the Juice, let our DBs play man to man..... I would love to see us hold Illi under 100 yds rushing.

Three Ohio coaches and 7 or 8 Ohio players.... does Zook think that gives him a chance??

This will be a game to remember for the Seniors, and I know that JT will explain that to ALL of the Buckeyes. I wish I could be there to see the player introductions!

Go Bucks! Just win (big), baby!

I doubt that Tressel will handcuff the offense like he did at Illinois last year, so Leman can play his best game and it still won't be near enough. As for Mendenlhall, he's essentially all they have, and seeing as we've already shut down rushing attacks like MSU's, we should have little problem sufficiently containing him. I think they only way he goes berserk is when he's on the bench throwing his helmet down, screaming, "Who ARE those mother fuckers?!"...

OSU shouldn?t need wake-up call against Illinois

[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]COLUMBUS ? Illinois tailback Rashard Mendenhall could have easily set the school single-season rushing record during a 44-17 win over Minnesota last Saturday.
But early in the fourth quarter, he told the Illini?s coaches to put his younger brother Walter, a freshman, into the game and let him get some playing time.
Ohio State can?t expect the same generosity from Mendenhall when Illinois comes to Ohio Stadium on Saturday (3:30 p.m., ABC-TV).
Much was made of the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes (10-0, 6-0 Big Ten) getting a bit of a scare by falling behind Wisconsin in the third quarter before winning 38-17 on Saturday.

Walter Mendenhall is not a freshman. In fact he is older than Rashard. That is a poor job of fact checking by that paper. Walter is one year older than Rashard and is a redshirt junior while Rashard is a true junior.

Perhaps...

But he has missed the fact that EVERY time ANY one asks ANYthing about JoePa, the answer on this board is "Depends". All other answers will be marked wrong and dinged accordingly.

I agree that the Buckeyes have been tough on Senior Day in The 'Shoe (except when one of the Seniors went out partying to celebrate a couple of days early, and THAT was against Illinois)...

But this is exactly what we are going to hear from TSUN fans next week. And the truth is, Henne Hart and Long having NOTHING left to play for and playing in the big house for the last time ever is truthfully going to be a tough hill to climb. I'm not being sarcastic; people have been way too dismissive of this.

Granted, I think the Buckeyes win; but that brings me to my point. Just because the Buckeyes have a reason to be extra motivated is not really the reason the Buckeyes will win. If it were, then TSUNfan will have a valid point next week. No, the reason the Buckeyes win this week is the same as the reason they win next week: they are the better team.

Agreed.

The thing is we have the better team than anyone in the B10 so when thats the case you really only have to worry about letdowns. The SR day/redemption from last year stuff is all I need to feel confident we won't have any motivation issues. Better athletes, well motivated and a well coached team that doesn't beat themselves. Thats a tough combo to overcome for opponents.

Next week when tsun fans are going on and on about SR's and not going 0-4, remind them thats exactly what their little brother was going through last week. When its our turn to crush little bro's hopes it will play out the same way.
