Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

Gatorubet is 100% correct about the Zookers teams.

Once he gets a little more depth of talent his teams will always have a punchers chance at taking down a team they shouldn't. One game a year they won't make the stupid mistakes, they won't turn it over, a juice Williams will have a career day throwing the ball...things like that. Then the next week they'll be back to being themselves and go lose at Iowa scoring only 6 points.

I'm not super worried about it this week, I don't think they have enough horses yet, but its something everyone needs to acknowledge in the near future about Illinois.

Oh I don't doubt that once they get talent they will be a contender, but I'm not buying into the, "just because zok's in there, he'll definitely be the spoiler for the contender" That's going to have to come from the players.

Zach Brown ran for 63 yards
Ken DeBauche for -2 yards
Travis Beckum for -9 yards
Tyler Donovan for -39 yards (how many of that came from sacks, I don't know)

Beckum was attempting to pass so I guess technically he was sacked. I can't remember Donovan getting positive yards scrambling, and he did get sacked 9-10 times so -39 yards from sacks alone makes sense. So yeah, 61 net yards rushing on the day.

People are probably getting the idea that our run defense is bad because we allowed 1 or 2 big runs the entire game and that's all they remember.

I'd say the impression comes from how well the defense has played overall(you are taken back a bit when the other team does anything really) and then seeing them get gashed by runs a few times vs Kent St, PSU and Wisky.

At the time it happens you get a bad vibe but if you go back and watch it again after the game emotion is gone its just a few plays and its usually a missed tackle. Its still not acceptable but the other teams have kids on scholarship too, it happens.

scUM is watching....

one of the fun elements of this game is what Tressel will show this week to get Llllloyd thinking.

Not that we haven't already shown a LOT of formations, new stuff, etc., but I love to see plays run this weel just to freak Ron English out.

Direct snap to Saine?

Robo end-around and pass?

More QB draws.... etc.

For one, I would like to see a lot of vertical passing game this week. Give the scUM DBs something to lose sleep over.

Go Bucks! Just win, baby!

I diagree. I think the Penn St. quote was great about how they had not seen one single play on film. Don't under estimate the element of surprise. Maybe run a play you know you will not ever use against scUM, but something you've kept in the bag all year.. i would keep it for scUM/NC game.

Is it better that we held the #1 rusher in the NCAA to 84 yards then?

BuckeyeNation27;984171; said:
probably not, because the #1 rusher in the NCAA is (without looking it up) probably somebody on a crappy team who racks up yards against other crappy teams.

Jarvis isn't #1 in the NCAA... Tulane's Mike Forte is with 259 carries for 1642 yards (182 ypg). Jarvis is #5 behind McFadden (1314 yards), Hart (1188 yards), and UCF's Kevin Smith (1448 yards).

Maybe Jarvis was #1 up to the week we played them...

I was watching BTN this morning and they were talking about what Illinois and Michigan need to do to beat us. I can't think of the guys name but he has consistently picked against the Bucks all year. Someone mentioned on a different thread that BTN had to bring in Tomzack to counter this guy since he was so anit-OSU....anyhoo......the OSU hater broke down the 30 yard run that Whisky had coming out from their own end zone and used that play to show why Mendenhall and Hart will have a field day on us. I'm pretty sure that was the only run over 10 yards they had all day.

I was mildly amused by the discussion.

so 63 yards from a 3rd string RB at best. that might have something to do with the thought that we have struggled against the run.

He got those 63 yards on 20 carries (3.2 ypc), with one run of 22 yards. Take that 22-yard run away and he's 19 carries for 41 yards (barely over 2 ypc). Third-string RB or not, I'll take that rush defense performance any day...

Probably the ex NU player(forget his name). He's been picking against us all year.
