Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

I'd be a little worried, as his MO is to win big games that he is not supposed to, and then fail to follow it up. That is why Zook and a freshman qb beat LSU in Baton Rouge the year that they won the BCS. That is why Zook beat FSU in Tally on the day that they dedicated Bobby Bowden Field, the first FSU defeat by UF at its house in many years.

He's the kind of Caoch who'll beat an Ohio State and then lose to Akron.

So while he is not a threat in general, he has to be on your radar, if for no other reason than his odd history of wins in big games.

if what you're saying is that he gets over-excited and blows his load early, then i think he was probably through for the season after beating state penn and wisky. they're at .500 after those two wins. they peaked very early in the season, for whatever reason...

i'll go as far to say that they're even going to lose to NW on nov 17th.

so, is this our first true test of the season?

I laugh when I read stuff like this. When we played Purdue, we were both undefeated, Purdue was ranked 23rd. When we played Penn State, they were ranked 24th. Wisconsin was ranked 19th. I am just sick of people ranking teams and then coming out and saying that we don't play anyone. Someone has to rank these teams. I guess they aren't man (or woman) enough to stand behind their rankings.:shake:

It's been said before, but yes, I have friends in the SEC who refer to being "Croomed" and "Zooked." Ron Zook is very renowned for beating good teams (Wisconsin, Penn State, FSU, LSU) and then losing to very bad teams (Ole Miss, Iowa).

I'm not saying we have to worry about it, I'm just saying that's what he's known for. I like how this team has been performing in the second half. We need to stop Rashard Mendenhall, a fast, powerful RB. We've been weak against the run so far, so let's see how it works out. Besides, if we get lit up by Mendenhall, I think Illinois is the last thing on our mind, when we pack our bags and go visit another elite RB who's backed up by someone who is not Juice Williams.

I am beginning to wonder if we will face a true test all year - unless we end up against an SEC team in the NC game, we will never have been tested.:wink2:

If we go there and blow out an SEC team, will we still have to wait until we play USC to be tested next year?

Difference being he's in Big10 country now. I can't really consider us being weak in the run. We've held 3 high caliber RB's to under 100 yards.

Gatorubet is 100% correct about the Zookers teams.

Once he gets a little more depth of talent his teams will always have a punchers chance at taking down a team they shouldn't. One game a year they won't make the stupid mistakes, they won't turn it over, a juice Williams will have a career day throwing the ball...things like that. Then the next week they'll be back to being themselves and go lose at Iowa scoring only 6 points.

I'm not super worried about it this week, I don't think they have enough horses yet, but its something everyone needs to acknowledge in the near future about Illinois.

I think we have the ability to make Illinois one dementional on Offense and I think the Wisconsin game showed that if we ever struggle on Offense we can always just go with a steady dose of Beanie. The line is set at 15.5 I am still going with the good guys. OSU 38- Illini 13.

where does this misguided notion come from? seriously, it's been popping up rather frequently in the last few weeks and it's just not true. we're giving up 2.15 yards/carry and 65 yards per game. statistically, this is the best rush D in the best in the Tressel era.
If giving up 65 rushing yards per game is weak, I don't want the D to be strong.
