Its early but some familiar trends are starting to resurface

And before we, myself included, put too much of the blame on JT and his play calling lets all remember this QB situation was solved untill Smith went and did something incredibly fucking stupid.

With an Alamo Bowl and Miami under his belt there is no way the coaches would have been so afraid to let TS pass in the Texas game. The execution and play calling would have been much better imo.

His lack of judgement put us back to having a QB problem and an inconsistent offense a la 1st half of 2004 and it also just played a huge part in an absolutely monumental loss for this program.

It's not all his fault but he has some redeeming to do in my eyes. That said I wish they would just make him the starter and be done with it. :frown2:

The playcalling sucked last night, but so did the execution. Way too many dropped passes, a couple of mishandled snaps. Once that kind of sloppiness gets cleaned up the stats will look a lot better. In any case I like our chances with Pittman back there a hell of a lot better than with Ross last year.:osu:

Very interesting point (although the official stat is 4.4 yards). Pittman did have some effective carries and I didn't look at his stats til I read your post. I came away from the game without a sense of having a consistent running game. And when you look at 17 carries we didn't use him much - certainly not in the tradition of an OSU running game.

FWIW here are his carries:

5, 1, 1, 14, 5, 0, 7, 4, 2, 17, 1, 5, 0, 4, 9, 0, 0

More than half those carries were for 2 yards or less.

I'll say it before and Ill say it again. His biggest problem is getting injured. Happened last year and happened this game. We was limping around for about the last 6 or so carries, which could explain some of those 0s. We definatley need another back to step up. We need to run the ball.

pittman played great, if you cant acknowledge that then get out of town, he played great against a great defense, we wont play anyone that good defensively the rest of the year. hes a gamer, he was hurting and still stayed in trying to run the ball, the kid has guts and loves the game, he played great.

I think that if you throw Dionte, or whoever, in the backfield as a FB you'd see Pittman get more yards, more consistently. He's a strong runner with good speed. Maybe the injury concerns caused JT to only give Pittman 17 carries, but I feel, if he's healthy, we need to give it to him 20-25x a game.

We played good enough to beat the #2 team in the country and the scary thing is this team is capable of so much more. This game is the prime example of why top programs do not schedule tough OOC teams. It is too early in the season and teams are still finding their identity.

We should win out and be playing in a BCS bowl at least and there is still a chance to win an NC with a few losses here and there to top teams.

Heres to hoping Tress opens up the offense and cruising through the Big 10.

2 best players

Texas has a great defense but I feel like the play calling had something to do with the lack of offense. How is it possible that your 2 best play makers have as few touches as Ginn and Holmes did last night. That needs to change and part of it is settling on one QB so they can get into a rhythm on offense. I think we found our running back if Pittman can stay healthy he looked really good. I think if Tressel picks a QB and keeps the offense more open like Miami (OH) we will be very hard to beat with our defense this year.

Yes pick one QB, or settle for one maybe, I don't know which is correct. But I know that If you drop a ball thrown right at you or fumble an easy hand off, you pay the price just like the team does when you commit that fowl. Ginn had two dropped balls and was heavily covered throughout the secondary. This year we really don't have a bad wide receiver and whenever one guy is covered close another is more likely open. The trouble was that Texas was so effective at blitzing and pass rushing that both Swick and Smith had to rush throws quite often. Overall they both made less mistakes passing than their Texas QB counterpart. Of course Smith had at least three blocks by Texas lineman that could have been interceptions. Frankly I think the Texas secondary was sharp in their coverage of our wide outs and especially Ginn. I wish our secondary was as sharp.

I really don't think we should start thinking next week is a cake walk. Our QB position is weak, our running game is suspect due to overal offensive scheme and our DL has vanished.

Then we have a head coach who is incapable of putting teams away. Yes, you can make the argument that's his "style" but to me it's only flirting with disaster; see last night, Purdue (02), Wisky (03), NCST, Cinci, etc.

As far as blowing through the B10, let's take it one game at a time. Like Jax, I see a 5 year trend in the making wrt our offense. This spans great personnel...NFL talent to be exact. I would like to see Tressel step up the way he asks his teams to step up.

I worked today and took a break late in the afternoon to run 12km and get rid of some of the blues. I ran up Chapman's Peak, hoping to see some whales, but there were none today.

I was feeling tired, hard done by, and nearly ready to slow to a walk, when I rounded a turn like this and a man passed slowly in a black Mercedes convertible, wearing scarlet and grey clothing and an Ohio State peak cap. I could hear Buckeye Battle Cry playing.

I have never heard Buckeye music in South Africa and only on a few rare occasions have I seen anyone wearing Ohio State gear. Isn't it funny how something so simple and rather meaningless to most people can lift one's spirits?

Here is what I thought as I pounded 6km home...I am fully aware of how difficult it will be but I am not prepared to give up on the idea of a NC yet. I am not surprised that players had execution problems because it was the first game with Smith this year. There are some more rough games ahead but we will win out.

We did not win but I am proud of this coach and team. And I am proud they are our team.

I don't understand why we didn't go downfield more with or passing yesterday, but that's water under the bridge.

My dad and I were saying the same thing...I think we've only gone vertical 4 times all year.

1 - Holmes TD vs. Miami
2 - Holmes vs. Miami (pass interference called)
3 - Holmes TD vs. UT
4 - Holmes vs. UT (overthrown by Zwick)

Something is wrong with this pattern.

I don't count Ginn's TD against Miami b/c that was a busted play.
