Jacksonville Jaguars (official thread)

Might as well Sticky this thread. Seems a ton of "new" fans just jumped on board the bandwagon LOL

I'm still a Dolphins fan but I'll watch Urban because he'll always be a Buckeye. Imagine how many Bucks in the league now that might want to play for Jacksonville?

Tim Tebow discusses the relationship Urban Meyer could have with Trevor Lawrence

Tebow also spoke on the head coach Lawrence is likely to be paired with in the NFL, Urban Meyer, who he had the luxury of playing under while with the Florida Gators. While together, the two had great success in Gainesville due to Meyer’s ability to cater to Tebow’s strengths, and though he’s now an NFL coach, Tebow said he expects Meyer to do the same for Lawrence.

“He’ll have a chance if he gets teamed up with Urban,” Tebow added. “One of the things I love about Urban is he’s going to put someone in a position where their strengths can flourish. He’s always done that. I believe he’ll always do that.”

Meyer’s choice to hire Darrell Bevell as his offensive coordinator is proof that the team plans to cater to what Lawrence does best. After working with Russell Wilson as a rookie and beyond, Meyer clearly felt the veteran coordinator has the ability to make Lawrence comfortable, too, but time will tell how successful the trio can be.

Urban Meyer reveals he is interested in Alex Smith reunion

Urban Meyer is in his first offseason as the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach and has added some elite talent to the roster. Meyer is working alongside general manager Trent Baalke to put together a competitive unit.

One name that Meyer has kept an eye on is NFL veteran Alex Smith. Meyer coached Smith at Utah and knows what he brings to the table. Smith made his triumphant return last season with the Washington Football Team after missing two years with a gruesome leg injury.

While the Jaguars are widely expected to take Clemson Tigers star Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Meyer mentioned on the Michael Irvin podcast that Smith is someone he has an interest in as well.

“I wanted him here,” Meyer said on the podcast via News 4 Jax. “You know, we talked to him about joining (the team). He’s had a tough injury. And I would tell people this when people didn’t know how tough he was, he’s one of the toughest cats I’ve ever been around. There are some medical people in our organization that we’re very concerned. And remember, our GM (Trent Baalke) actually drafted Alex at San Francisco. So you have two people in Jacksonville that love Alex. It was that was deeper than a player, now. He’s like our family. Both of us feel so strongly about them. But that’s something that we’re just going to keep an eye on because I hope he comes back.”

Smith was released this offseason. He mentioned that his time in Washington came to an abrupt end after he felt he did not receive support in his NFL comeback. Smith played in eight games (made six starts) with Washington. He led the team to a 5-1 record and completed 66.7% of his passes for 1,582 yards and six touchdowns.

There is a lot of familiarity between Smith and the Jaguars. He was drafted by Baalke first overall by the San Francisco 49ers. Smith has admitted that he would like to keep playing after his comeback.

He told ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler that he would like to play somewhere during the 2021 season. The Jaguars have a lot of quarterbacks on the roster with Gardner Minshew and C.J. Beathard still on the team.
