Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

I'm not seeing how that substantiates them being a "gimmick" program.

Their jerseys and facilities are about the only draw to Oregon in recruiting, despite their solid success.

gimmick - A quirky feature that distinguishes a product or service without adding any obvious function or value. Thus, a gimmick sells solely on the basis of distinctiveness and may not appeal to the more savvy or shrewd customer.

What do you all think? (about the design)

This...

It resembles the 1954 uniform in no way whatsoever. Fuck Nike. Also, shame on the OSU powers-that-be for allowing this shit...

They are an absolute abortion. Ignore my earlier comments...the jerseys are actually the best part of the entire clusterfuck. :(

ok, I haven't followed OSU long enough to be up to date on y'all traditions.

so forgive me if I'm blaspheming.

I like this look. Other than the helmets being white, I can pretty much still tell that this is an OSU uniform.

It looks pretty clean and not gimmicky. Almost like they took y'all current look and just made it a bit sleeker.
All in all, not bad at all IMO.

Our unis won't be officially unveiled until the 22nd. I can only hope that ours look better than that leaked photo of the Washington wannabes.

So far of the ones leaked, I like y'all and Texas' the best.

If anyone stops by the Schottenstein Team store today can you please report what they have? So far the Buckeye Corner and Buckeye room have just carried the replica $80 ones. I think the authentics look much better, and really want one. The lady at Team Store yesterday told me they were getting the authentics, but I'm not so sure with everyone else only having the replicas thus far. Of course if anyone has the authentics, it would be them. I would greatly appreciate it. They're not answering their phones this morning.

No, you are right, they look good. I think when we see them on the field that we will like them even more. I love the pants.

While they are not as bad as they could have been--see TCU, for example--I disagree with the not gimmickly part of your post.

The wrap around stripe on the pants is very gimmicky to my mind.

And the undershirt with the 'Buckeyes' on the sleeve is gimmicky as well.

If Nike had kept is simple it would have been better.

As often the case with Nike they neglect the 'less is more' principle in design.

I think by now it's obvious who falls into the following categories relative to the tribute unis:

1. Like 'em.
2. Hate 'em.
3. Don't much care either way.
4. Think concerning ourselves greatly with 'em is the single most important clue that the concerned individual needs to come out of the closet.

I agree with you on the wrap around stripe part, but they don't really stand out too much.

the undershirt probably won't even be seen, so I don't really count that part.

but hey, look on the bright side.
at least they used actual team colors, and kept the look at least somewhat traditional.

ours is a throwback to...oh wait, we've never actually worn anything that looks like the abominations we'll wear on Nov 28.
Last time we wore a helmet with a different color gold than our current ones, it was made of leather.

I like the throwback joints more than the current home jersey editions. Mostly indifferent though because it's the friggin GAME (yet I realize this same reason is why others are so passionate about it :))

the thing is, they aren't throwbacks. if Nike had told the truth (we are introducing a new product line, and blah blah blah) i wouldn't be nearly as put off. to market it as a throwback, when it CLEARLY is NOT, is disingenuous.

if they had come out with a uni that actually LOOKED like the '54 unis, i'd be happy as a clam... but i'm not down with this UNLV wannabe garbage.

throwback: 3. the reversion to an ancestral or earlier type or character; atavism.

Ahh, I see now. The corporate dollar wins again, history and accuracy be damned. Those Nike fat cats think they are slick eh.

If you're interested, here's the promo/intro for the gameday shirt.

Pretty cool homage to our traditions and legacy.

Plus, it seems to answer once and for all one of the foundational questions of the Universe.

:oh:

"It says that Wayne Woodrow Hayes is a prophet!" Nike did a damn good job with that segment and the shirt.

Edit: You can pick them up online here.
