Juniors leaving early - speculation thread

Not sure what the 07 draft class looks like for safeties, but here is the likely competition at safety for whitner (arbitrary list):
1. LaRon Landry*, LSU
2. Michael Huff, Texas
3. Darnell Bing*, USC
4. Bernard Pollard*, Purdue
5. Jason Allen, (CB/S) Tennessee
6. Greg Blue, Georgia
7. Anthony Smith, Syracuse
8. Pat Watkins, Florida State
9. Brian Iwuh, Colorado
10. Chris Harrell, Penn State
11. Jarrad Page, UCLA
12. Greg Threat, Miami
13. Muhammad Abdullah, UK

As a homer, I could see him being #4 behind huff, bing and landry. That still puts him in the 2nd round.

Footballfuture has him at #6

im going to with the methomps on this one and say Bing is gone. whitner will than become #3 on your list. Do you think that would push him into a late first round pick?

I think Whitner should stay purely on the fact that another big year will help him out tremendously. IMHO he would be lucky to go by middle of round 3. Safeties just arent picked high, If he could come back next year and have a big season, get bigger and just mature on the football field it is only going to help him, pick up more money in the draft.

a good senior season will, imo, move whitner from a mid to high second round selection to a high first rounder. personally i think that is a good enough reason to stay. id put holmes at 70/30 that he will leave. i seriously doubt this was the season he wanted to leave tOSU with. i think his stock is reasonably high. but it definitely isn't as good as it could be. i see him leaving, but i wouldn't be overly surprised if he stayed. ay isn't going anywhere.

even with a great season next year, I'm not sure he would match Doss' stardom & productivity over three years (whitner was good in 04, but hurt often and unable to show it). Doss went in the 2nd IIRC. I really hope he stays and that I vastly underrated him as a 2nd rounder.

There is absolutely no reason for Holmes to stay for his senior (5th) year...none. He's one of the very top WRs in the country and has two little mouths to feed. He's gone, and I hope he's an upper first round pick and makes a shit-load of money.

There is a chance that Huff might be drafted to play corner

as for Vince, if he loses the Heisman and the Rose Bowl I seem him coming back 100%, if he wins the Rose Bowl it goes 60-40 to return. I think that he was probably bored getting taken out of the games with one half of football remaining. Mack's convinced that he is coming back, but now ESPN reported that his family is seeking out agents. Everything depends on the outcome on the 4th for him.

no, whitner will likely never match doss' stardom. but if you compair the two players, i think whitner stacks up very well against doss and any other saftey you want to compair him to. whitner might even project better in the nfl because, imo, he is better in coverage than doss was. i think if whitner comes out next year and has a season similar to 05 and the bucks do well, i could see him sneaking into the late first round.

*shrug* you could be dead on with the 2nd round at best guess. last i checked my business cards did mention "pro scout" anywhere on them :p.

fight what is the families $ituation?

I am uncertain about his family's financial situation, or his own need for the payday, I am sure that the insurance policies, etc. need to be thoroughly discussed and evaluated after the season, no telling once agents start spouting off about millions of dollars. There used to be talk about his mother's desire for him to graduate, etc. but I haven't heard that as much lately. I would just be upset that he didn't get the proper send off from the field in Austin. Next year at home vs. A&M for a final home game would be f'n sweet. I think he really wants to play tOSU again as well with out seeing Hawk, Carpenter and Schlegel. :wink2:
