Lakers vs Celtics Championship?

The most interesting part about this Laker team is the fact that they don't have too much superstar in them to make it impossible for the team to win. The Bryant/O'Neal/Payton/Malone combination had 4 guys that each wanted the ball.

Gasol wasn't the highest scorer on his team. Odom knows he is a role player. Bynum knows what his job is. They won't have any problem giving Kobe all the shots he wants.

One thing I haven't mentioned yet is the PG depth. Derek Fisher is a seasoned veteran from the Championship teams. Throw in a 2nd year Jordan Farmar? Jeez. There isn't much of a drop.

all good points. I see it as ball hogs and Payton/malone were at the end of their careers = lakers killed themselves. Bynum is a young star, gasol is a stud and a team player. They never show him dunking on people . I guess you can't be white:) and Odom is another key player. You hit it on with Fisher, he is a great PG with that much talent.

Love the talent level on one team.

more important than getting Gasol, is getting rid of Kwame Brown.

yeesh, what a horrible "basketball" player, losing that makes the Lakers better, no matter what they got in return

 Kwame Brown= Yinke dare, felton spencer, danny ferry, stanley roberts and some others

They beat the Lakers without Bynum and they just lost to the Sonics if you think that way. Cavs are no threat in the East...sorry guys. 1-3 vs. Boston, Orlando and Detroit. Maybe if they get Kidd things could change.

The other guys already hit on this, but this is a little off base if you have watched the Cavs at all...

You know they have been injured, holdouts or what not all season...If they get all their guys together, then they are a very tough team to beat in the East...

Like the other guys not saying we are the favorite, but we do have a dog in the fight...

I guess I could lie and say that I seen this coming, thus starting a thread called "Lakers and Celtics Champioship".....but this is a surprise!

I think we may get to see it! But the west is so tough and then the celtics have the Cavs and the Pistons to deal with. It wont be an easy road for either of them.

Getting Gasol is huge, but you're right about getting rid of Kwame, even though this was the last year on his contract he wasn't very good and having him come in just for a few minutes made me beat my head against my desk. Defense was horrible, missed easy shots, and didn't hustle up and down the court.

At this point, I can't wait til Tuesday to see how we do, getting Gasol was a huge step for the boards and just some solid points out of another player. Bryant can shoot, but I hate the fact that if he has a bad game we live and die by him, when Bynum was there it was a huge difference, if Kobe was off he could just rack up the assists to Bynum.

This sure makes for some interesting drama during the season, if the Lakers can get back on the right track and survive the next 4 and a half weeks they stand a chance at doing some serious damage in the playoffs. Bynum, Gasol, Bryant, Odom and Fisher is a nice starting 5.

The Celtics need to show me that they can consistently beat the other good teams in the East, which they haven't yet. They have a short bench and are an older team so I think they will get weaker if they have to fight hard to get deeper in the playoffs.
I would love to see the Cavs get up to the 2nd or 3rd spot in the playoffs and have to face the Pistons in the second round. Let the Celtics play Orlando in the second so that Howard can beat down KG. We'll see how they look tomorrow in their second trip to Cleveland.

Shaq in Phx = Kobe on the golf course.

I like our chances, with Bynum back, Gasol and Odom at forward, Fisher and Bryant at guard I wouldn't discount us against anyone. But if you wanna go ahead and make a small side wager, I would be more than willing to take a Raiders fans vcash away from him.
