Lamarcus Joyner (DB New York Jets)

from ESPN on the trail...

Cornerback Lamarcus Joyner talks top five (Feb9)

Class of 2010 ESPNU 150 Watch Lister Lamarcus Joyner told affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com, "It's so hard, so many great programs, but I can break my top five down to you, you've got Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Notre Dame. They have all offered."

Joyner believes he could grow as a person at Notre Dame, loves Ohio State's success as a program and the number of defensive backs the Buckeyes have placed in the NFL, called Florida "the number one program in the nation right now", described Florida State as his childhood dream school, and would love to represent his hometown with the Hurricanes.

We crank em in the NFL and we need ya as soon as you can get here, even the plain dealer knows it

Come up north and be groomed for future success like another FL guy who plays for those Steelers.

If you look up the term "run support" in an encyclopedia, there's a picture of LJ knocking the crap out of someone. This kid can bring the lumber!!
That being said, I would have to say I'm most impressed with his top end speed and his acceleration. He looks like a man amongst boys...and this is Dade County we're talking about. He's one of those guys that could come here and see immediate action in my opinion.

Officially the guy I want the most for the class of 2010.

Above all the athletic ability in the world, what I like about LJ is his heart on the field...he is a champion. It really pumps me up to see someone going full tilt like that...LJ had about 3 plays where he straight ran someone down from behind and never gave up on the play. The most impressive (to me) was when he knocked the guy out at the 1 yard line after chasing him down, that's just unbelievable heart. Most would give up on the play and conced the touchdown, but LJ refuses to lose. There aren't many players who are as confident as LJ, who also back it up on the field with such determination. I'm with southcampus, LJ is #1 on the guys I want at OSU right now. He is in the same winners mentality of Brewster and Pryor, he doesn't just want to win, he does what it takes to win.

LJ plays much bigger than he is. He's like Superman. Having seen this kid play (and personally watching that rundown on my guy Berry), you want to get your hands on this kid. I know the college recruiters are going to stop by in droves come spring practice in May, they did so around Berry more than any other guy who has gone to that high school.

Note to punter in Miami & surrounding Dade County areas:

Punt the ball out of bounds!!!

Nasty tape, but 5:00 & 5:42 = gross

LOL. If they can punt, having watched football down here since the late 70s, they're absolutely atrocious in this county when it comes to punting. I have even seen punts go backward over the punter's head. Some teams just wind up going for it on 4th down if they're not too deep in their territory and it's like 4th and 2 or less.

Why are a ton of Buckeye fans really doubting the seriousness of LJ to OSU. I guess I understand though. But Lamarcus is just different. Let me let you in on a little of his back ground. He played little league football for Tacolcy park. In the ultra competitive area of miami football him going there was rare. It's tons of recruiting down here starting with little league football already. Basically that park teams are terrible and the other 3 local parks have Luke Campbell, Chad johnson, and the NFL supporting them but he chose to play for a team he'll stand out for. Dont be crazy and say he's afraid to compete. I asked him why he wanted to play for them and he said he wanted to go to a sorry team and make them good. I played at the park before so I was good with it. After a week of practice he was moved from the 115 pound to the 135 pound squad. After another week he played for the 150 pound squad, those guys were 3-4 years older. He relished the opportunity to play the squads that when to lil league championship games in Orlando. His teams never got far in the playoffs but after every game he was the talk. He always wanted to do something different. When it came down to HS, I thought it would be impossible to get him to come with me to Southwest HS. We won only 2 games the yr before and the school never had a .500 or better record in its history. On top of that, Northwestern is his home school. But he said he loved the challenge to compete against those teams and show everyone what he could do. He always believed he could help turn things around. Plus I had a chance to really work him out and train him along with coach Johnson. I was always asked why SW, and I always said his choice. So to me he has a different type of mentally. Not the typical Miami football thinking in regrads to staying close to home. He thinks just like Frankie Telfort and Vlad E.

I enjoyed the post and your thoughts on Lamarcus until I read the last sentence:biggrin2:

Thanks for the input genron. On OSU fans, most free boards (scout.com, rivals.com, etc) are filled with overly emotional, reactionary posters. That's a big reason this board is so popular, because most posters are level-headed regardless of the outcome, and if they step out of line, they are corrected quickly.

As for reasons why: some of it is a defense mechanism, they worry that the worst will happen in order to brace for that outcome. Some of it is just being overly negative. Some of it simply has no explanation or justification.

I know the folks around here appreciate the input and take your words seriously. This is easily one of if not the most popular recruiting threads each week.

If I had those skills I wouldnt be scared to compete either.

He sounds like a great kid, and hope he makes the decision thats best for him. And on a selfish note, I hope that choice is in Columbus.

The reason for our reservations is we've seen too many of these types of recruitments play out. Some people on here try not to get their hopes up so when these top 10 national kids go elsewhere at the end it doesnt hurt as much.

Because it is twelve months to Signing Day, and at this point, the best policy is to doubt every recruit's "seriousness" ... especially if he is from out of state ... especially if he is a "top 10" prospect in the country ... especially because Ohio State does not "close" kids who make late decisions/announcements.
