1. Meat Market

2. Seven of the SEC's most famous infractions - Reports from The Birmingham News - al.com

LSU (1998) Basketball coach gave a prospect cash, helped land jobs for the athlete's mother and sister and paid medical bills for the player. Sanctions: Three years of probation, loss of eight initial scholarships and two maximum scholarships and forfeiture of games.

Boy did we get the short end of that deal.
Lester Earl brags about getting paid (while still here).
We get slammed, he keeps his eligibilty and receives a free transfer and doesn't have to sit out a year (is there a transfer rule in BBall like the one in football?).

Yeah we got caught and had to pay our dues, but how did Earl keep his eligibilty after admitting he got paid?

Whatever. Dump on Meyer and I'll do a blah blah blah post every time. Like Thump and groundhogs, Bucky and picnic tables, Scooter and Hermione....just a natural almost unconscious reaction.:tongue2:

In absolutely no way do I mean the following to be interpreted as an attack on UF or Meyer because I don't have a negative opinion of either. That said, he didn't clarify his argument because there are quite a few people who believe that the SEC's lack of ethical boundaries is common knowledge. And just to be specific, by quite a few people I mean the majority of the people who live outside the South East.

To be fair, his brush covered both the SEC as a conference and Urban Meyer as UF's coach. I really could not care less about hearing him trying to substantiate a claim that the entire conference is devoid of ethics, but I am very interested in him proving that claim against Urban, and that is what I am really focusing on.

He ain't got nuttin' against Urban other than the same type of crap that was alleged against Tress - rumors and lazy journalist and fan blog nonsense. All that smoke had no fire when it came to MoC and Tress. Same thing here.

He recruited a Kryptonian to play football against regular humans.

Agreed.

Besides, when Tressel retires Meyer will probably find his way home. :paranoid:

I get the feeling that Kiffin is trying to rekindle a rivalry with this kind of stuff....... It will probably go over well with the UT fan base. That being said, when Florida steamrolls Tennessee next season, I am going to be damn interested to see what Kiffin has to say. Does he not realize that the national media will now really cover that game? He has a shit team.......against an excellent Florida team. He is setting himself up for failure. What an arrogant idiot.

IIRC every member institution of the SEC, save for Vandy, has made the NCAA major infraction list.

I can understand not liking people painting your conference with broad brushes but at the same time, no one really has to make anything up.

Well.....Northwestern and State Penn must be clean :paranoid:

But you get extra credit for having the entire conference cited for a major infraction :slappy:

Point is, we all have amnesia when it comes to our own conference. Hell, it may be as simple as we hate each other in the SEC a bunch more than you hate each other in the Big 10 and thus turn each other in a lot more.

SEC and Big 12 far and away have the most major infractions since the 1950's...and while the Big 10 has a few major infractions in the last 20 years, it isn't really that comparable to the list I posted earlier, that dates back to 1985. And those were only the top 7....

Here, in chronological order, are some of the most infamous cases of major NCAA infractions in SEC history:

ALABAMA (2002) Three boosters were found guilty of football recruiting violations, including payments to two prospects and one player. UA was on probation at the time. Sanctions: Five years of probation, loss of 21 scholarships and disassociation of boosters.

KENTUCKY (2002) Case involved football recruiting coordinator, two other assistants, a football camp director. Among the violations: the coordinator provided cash and no-cost lodging for prospects, paid an ACT tutorial fee for another prospect and sent a money order to a prep coach to entice a player. Sanctions: Three years of probation, one-year postseason ban, loss of 19 initial scholarships and reduction of maximum scholarships by five.

LSU (1998) Basketball coach gave a prospect cash, helped land jobs for the athlete's mother and sister and paid medical bills for the player. Sanctions: Three years of probation, loss of eight initial scholarships and two maximum scholarships and forfeiture of games.

OLE MISS (1994) Illegal football recruiting inducements by coaches and boosters, boosters taking prospects to a strip club and unethical conduct by the head coach. The 1994 probation followed 1986 sanctions on similar grounds. Sanctions: Four years of probation, two-year postseason ban, one-year TV ban, loss of 24 scholarships and reduction of official recruiting visits from 56 to 40.

AUBURN (1993) Football program guilty of providing game-performance bonuses, regular cash payments and using ineligible players. Sanctions: Two years of probation, two-year postseason ban, one-year TV ban, loss of 13 initial scholarships.

KENTUCKY (1988) Assistant basketball coach sent cash to a prospect's home by FedEx. Other violations included improper lodging, transportation, clothing and meals, academic fraud and unethical conduct. Sanctions: Three years of probation, two-year postseason ban, one-year TV ban, loss of six scholarships and the return of NCAA Tournament revenue.

FLORIDA (1985) Illegal fund by head football coach, unethical conduct by six athletic department employees, improper use of complimentary tickets to pay athletes, improper entertainment of prospects and improper transportation and lodging. Sanctions: Two years of probation, two-year postseason ban, two-year TV ban, loss of 10 scholarships and the reduction of maximum scholarships by 10. Compiled by Doug Segrest from the NCAA Legislative Database.

Gator most of those for the B10 aren't even in football. I guess I should have clarified that I was trying to recall the specifics of how many SEC schools had made it to that list recently in football.

I agree with you overall that everyone gets into trouble but the SEC is far and away the leader in that regard.

It would seem that a conference is either unethical or not. I mean, saying "we get major infractions, but not in football so much" is like saying "yes I steal, but only jewelry and not art work so much". But if you are narrowing the game from Urban and the SEC to the subject of the SEC in Football generally, then - yes - we have more violations.*

(* or to Kyle - Blah blah blah :p)

 To be fair, my point was that you fuckin' lawyers could take two sentences and stretch it into an essay.

If by your two posts on this subject you are saying Meyer is an unethical coach, or that he engages in unethical recruiting practices, you should provide reasons for that opinion, without which it looks like your opinion is based upon ignorance of the man and his practices. That is not unusual if you are not an avid Florida fan, but it is not well supported none the less.

I mean, feel free to put slappy smilies all over your post, but they will not substitute for a complete absence of evidence and proof to support that assertion of unethical behavior.

As to your amusement with the existence of a Code of Ethics in the SEC, it looks a little petty, honestly. It is like saying "(Fill in political party) Ethics Committee" and posting a slappy. You are obviously trying to say something (or at least imply that the SEC has no ethics), but the lack of any specifics makes the post look like some bucknutsesque simplistic and over-broad smack...'course, that is just my opinion.

Hatin' on the SEC is not unusual, but with an absence of stated facts, it leaves me to look at other reasons for the hatin'

*Non-Lawyer Translation*:

Talkin' a bunch of shit without backing it up makes me think you're just bitter about the '07 NC game, no matter how many 's you use.
