Man of Steel: Unfortunate it followed the Dark Knight, because no comic movie will ever get close to that one IMO. Still, it was decent and worth a look. I'd go 3.5/5, I like the dude who plays Zod (he is always good), and Amy Adams may not be Halle Berry hot but she is a good actress.

I agree, I had high hopes that MOS would succeed in the TDK dark-comic book path, but it was a little bit of a letdown. Still a decent movie and worth seeing, but I was hoping for an epic super hero movie and it wasn't.

They pretty much had a perfect cast but the movie was very much lacking in originality. B-

finally saw Lincoln. Thought the acting was terrific. Was let down that there was basically no Civil War action though. As great as Glory was, there needs to be another great Civil War movie made.


anyone have any recommedations on a good one? I've seen Glory, North and South, Gettysburg, Cold Mountain.

Some of the Eastwood westerns are set during the Civil War, i.e. "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". "Gods and Generals" is a decent prequel to "Gettysburg". There's also Tobey Maguire and Jewel in "Ride with the Devil" if you're really jonesing.

Gods and Generals. Not that I would call it "great" by any means but if you're looking for Civil War action it fits the bill. It's the a prequel to Gettysburg (regarding cast and production, and actual real life events) though some actors are playing different characters and some are completely different (Lee being played by Robert Duvall).

Not as good as Gettysburg but still worth a watch.

My first time seeing it. I must confess, it's just about the most 80's movie I think I've ever seen. Really enjoyed this movie for some reason.

Finally saw Les Mis and I have a few thoughts:

1. Russell Crowe. I mean, I'm not sure what people expected from him. He was obviously cast for box office purposes. He's not a great singer and it's a shame that he couldn't give the performance in "Stars" that the role demands. He was gruff in the parts that needed it like the Confrontation, the Robbery, and at the barricades when he's discovered as a spy. Maybe it was because my expectations were so low going in, but I honestly didn't hate him as Javert. And that's about as nice as I can be about it.

2. Sacha Baron Cohen was perfect for Thenardier. His singing voice a pleasant surprise and he definitely added the comic relief to the classic villain. Helena Bonham Carter was dreadful as his wife. If you didn't already knows the words to her part, you couldn't have figured out what she was saying.

3. Hathaway was obviously spectacular. I really can't add anything to her performance that hasn't already been said, except to say that it was outstanding, and yet imperfect in some ways. I thought it was incredibly unnecessary for her to starve himself so much for the part.

4. No issues with Hugh Jackman's performance. He really is a talented singer and I've always kind of pictured Valjean as this big hulking figure that he was able to accurately portray. There were certainly some parts (Soliloquy) were he is a bit over the top and I didn't appreciate the talking version of "Who Am I?" But that's about it for criticism.

5. The girl that played Eponine was awesome. That's exactly what that part demands. Terrific singing voice. Nailed "On My Own" better than I've ever seen it. She may have actually been a little too attractive for the part if I have any criticism whatsoever.

6. Redmayne and Seyfried were whatever. The performance in "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" saved the Marius character for me in the film, but it was underwhelming.

7. The kid that played Gavroche was perfect.

What did you think of older Cosette? My wife thought her vibrato sounded like the birds from Cinderella :lol: (2:10 mark)

I thought the spoken parts and his unique voice really added a new feel to a familiar role.

It was a pretty good movie especially for $1.25, if Bruce Willis had been cast in the lead role it could have been called Die Hard 6: Secret Service Agent Defeats North Korean Terrorists In The White House.

It's about the last few days of Hank Williams' life. Definitely low budget & the cinematogrophy had the 'made for TV' look. Not a great movie but at times it did manage to portray the loneliness that defined his life.

Never thought I'd see Elliot (from ET) in the role of Hank Williams but he did a credible job. Kaley Cuoco is a cutie but she was horribly miscast here. She just doesn't pull off a convincing small town girl from the West Virginia hills. It doesn't help that the costume people apparently thought she was playing a waif in a Dickens novel.
