LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

Why? I want him as a LB...6-foot-3 228 now means 6-foot-4 250 in a few years...perfect for playing the middle.

That and in his film he just looks like a natural MIKE. Very instinctive and has good athleticism. I really think many haven't given Sabino much thought but I could easily see us landing him.

Just speaking for myself--and without having seen any film on Sabino--it just seems as if we have a surplus of linebackers already and a great chance at landing 3 or 4 more great ones in '09. By comparison, we seem light at TE and especially DE. For that reason, one of my first questions about any name that pops up as a LB is if they can play DE.

Well it is always a possibility, but with guys like Williams and hopefully Hale we would be set there, and while we have an abundance of LB's, we are thin at the Mike position and from Sabino's film you can see that he will make a great Mike backer...

Guys like Homan, Gibson, Moeller, Hines, Rolle, Sweat are suited for the outside Sam and Will positions...

Homan and Sweat could play the Mike, but are better suited for the outside spots...

I would much rather have a player like Sabino in the fold already than count on guys next year to come aboard. After watching Sabino's film, no way you turn a kid like this down.

Rivals UF$

9/18

Much like the BN update, he says he didn't talk to the coaches much a UF and will for sure officially visit Ohio State. However, while listing school of interest, he fails to mention North Carolina, which cam as a shock as many thought he was strongly considering them. IMO, it's USC or Ohio State.

I talked to the author of the above article, and he informed me that the order of the teams listed in the piece are as Etienne stated them... Why do I mention this? tOSU was mentioned first when Sabino was talking about everything he said...
May not mean anything, but that is usually a nice sign... :osu:

He's visited USC and Florida... has been relatively lukewarm about both visits.. wasn't blown away by either... And it's sounding like OSU could be his last trip, as he's uncertain whether he'll schedule any more or where too..

That to me sounds like a kid ripe for the picking..

He definitely sounded like he was blown away by USC.

EDIT: I just reread his update from the USC visit on Rivals again, and he didn't seem as blown away with it as the first I read it. However, he did sya many more positive things about them than he did Florida.

Remember, he'll be a big speed recruit. Kids are still kids, and there's no telling exactly how he'll develop yet. ES is a huge talent in the big speed category as are the 3 or 4 great ones you're thinking of in 2009.
