Well, yeah...but then it wouldn't make sense to post the bit. :shake:

When trying to figure out who's right, if things aren't completely black and white, that means they're in a gray area - which on BP is a scarlet-and-gray area. :wink2:

Ohio State 10th in national standings

Ohio State ended up 10th in the Directors' Cup standings for 2008-09, which determine to rank which Division I college has the most successful overall athletic department.

You can find the release, and link to the standings, here.

Some highlights for those who don't want to follow the link right now:

-- Stanford won, for the 150th straight year....actually 15th. Somewhere, Andy Geiger is bursting with pride.

-- OSU was second among Big Ten schools. Behind Michigan. Chew thoroughly before swallowing.

-- It was OSU's highest finish since 2004, when the Buckeyes were fourth. OSU's best finish was 2003, when it was third....averaging out the results, OSU finished 18th in the first five years (1994 to 1998), then had a good run in the middle six years, averaging 9th (1999 through 2004). In the past five years, the average is 12th (2005-present).

I can think of a couple of higher profile type sports they weren't #1 in.

Congratulations on the womens crew title or whatever it was that got them the number one ranking.

Buckeyes Ranked Eighth in Current Directors' Cup Standings

COLUMBUS, Ohio - With nine NCAA championships completed, Ohio State currently sits eighth in the 2009-10 Learfield Directors' Cup Standings. The Buckeyes have finished in the Top 25 nationally in football, field hockey, men's soccer, women's volleyball and men's cross country.

Ohio State is one of five Big Ten Conference programs ranked in the Top 25, including Penn State (4th), Michigan State (15th), Minnesota (20th), and Wisconsin (21st).

The Ohio State football team led the way, earning 75 points after a Rose Bowl victory and fifth place finish while the men's soccer and women's volleyball teams each earned 50 points with 17th place finishes. Men's cross country brought in 32 points after finishing 21st nationally. Both the women's field hockey and women's soccer teams earned 25 points after ending their respective seasons ninth and 33rd in the country. The women's cross country team rounded out the Buckeyes' scoring, earning 16 points after running to a 29th place finish.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.

The first Winter Division I standings will be released Thursday, March 11, 2010. All standings published midseason are unofficial, as official standings will be published upon the completion of the spring season. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's Web site at www.nacda.com.

We should add to this total big-time with wrestling, and both of the basketball teams. Stanford will probably get big points in women's basketball but I don't think they are very good when it comes to wrestling:) Also come spring, we will get really big points in tennis and hopefully track and field. Not sure about the baseball/softball teams.

The baseball team has a great chance to go to World Series, based on what's returning. Should get some points in fencing (men & women), and golf , men's not sure about women's. Crew? Don't think OSU is doing too well in ice hockey (Men or Women), and volleyball. Stanford does very well in all sports except football.

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger: maybe someone more learned can fill in the blanks.

Bump on this thread to congratulate the Buckeyes for its third place position at the end of fall rankings. Awesome guys and gals! :banger:

It's rigged against us, why isn't "couch burning" included as sport?

Cross Country kills us in the fall!!

How you fix the CC situation;

1) Go find some 3rd world country where the basic resources needed to sustain life are scarce and those that are still alive are used to running for their life a lot.

2) Offer them scholarships to come to OSU

3) Don't tell them no one will kill them if they slow down over here and/or put a loaf of bread or a gallon of water at the finish line.

Problem solved.
