Women's hoops should end up giving us a nice boost when all is said and done. Men's hockey should make the NCAA tourney. The baseball team has some question marks but if they can find a stable rotation they'll do real well.

Unfortunately the wrestling team doesn't seem to be performing well, and the Men's B-Ball team can't get us any points due to the postseason ban.

You have to wonder about this award sometimes. Pistol, Diving, and Synchronized Swimming are not included, while Rifle, Skiing, and Women's Bowling are.

We are currently third in the Director's Cup Standings, behind Stanford, who has won every Cup since the very first one, and tSUN. Penn State is currently in fourth, so the Big Ten is representing three of the top four athletic programs in the country right now.

There are only six sports left which count towards the cup standings:

Men's Golf
Baseball
Softball
Women's Rowing
Men's Outdoor Track and Field
Women's Outdoor Track and Field

At this point Stanford looks to have an insurmountable lead, but we could certainly overtake Michigan. Either ASU or TAMU is going to jump us with a win in Softball, and there are a lot of teams close to us that could make up ground in baseball. Our women's rowing team just took 7th at the NCAA finals, so that should get us about 70 points. Men's Golf will get us some points because of their top-16 finish. Hopefully we can get some points in either Men's or Women's Outdoor Track and Field and finish in the top 5, that would be pretty awesome.

Men: Only qualified 1 athlete to the Championships (Jeff See in the 1500m). If he wins the event the team will get 10 points towards the championship team standings.... last year 5th place scored 27 points and 32 teams scored 10 or more points. It is mathematically impossible for the men to finish in the top 20.

Women: Qualified in 3 events (4x100m relay, Jenna Griffin in the 400m, Veronica Jatsek in the hammer). The only way the women can finish in the top 5 is if they win all 3 events which is highly unlikely (UCLA finished 5th last year with 30 points). They do have a chance at a top 20 finish though... that would vastly surpass any expectations I had for them entering the outdoor season.

OK. This is a shameless bragging post, but UCLA did not finish in the top ten in the Director's cup for the first time in 26 years.


Now, only one institution has been ranked in the top ten every year for the entirety of the history of the Director's Cup. And that is the University of Florida.

Edit: we are spending 12 million to build a lacrosse field and finally have a men's team. It is nice to be able to add new sports, since we lose points in the Cup every year to schools with fencing and badminton teams, lacrosse, ice hockey, and other sports we have never fielded a team. Plus, men's lacrosse is fun to watch.

Considering its only been called the Directors Cup since 2003 thats not all that impressive. :wink2:

I don't know if there are any other exceptions to your statement above, but obviously Stanford is a pretty glaring one.

Stanford is usually no. 1 by a large margin because of the number of sports it fields, so what you say does make sense. The Cardinal for the entire time? I dunno. I don't even have a link for historical results.

Without looking it up, I would have to believe that Stanford has probably won the Sears Directors:biggrin2: more than any other school in the last 10 years. When it comes to their "non revenue" sports, there is plenty of revenue.

It would seem to me that it would be easier for Florida to build a fencing and badminton facilities rather than a lacrosse field.
