Mark Sanchez (Philadelphia Eagles)

re: strong dislike

I thought I read somewhere that because of a strong dislike for a former teammate that is currently on USC's team, there was no way Bemoll was going to be a Trojan.
There are only 3 former MV football players on the Trojan roster. I believe he was only a team mate with one of them. Interesting, though. Bemoll was not recruited by SC, in spite of his high ranking. The MV coach, Bob Johnson, was puzzled by that because he thought Bemoll was a better prospect over all than Drew Radovich (a RS freshman OT at SC). So maybe there is something to what you posted, but this is the first I've heard of it. Seems like water under the bridge now.

Just referred to your board today. Very nice, intelligently designed. I have been a premium member on the USC Rivals and WeAreSC Insiders sites for about a year.

Congratulations on Kevin Bemoll. Mission Viejo is one of the top 5 HS programs in California. You've got a good one.

I was very wrong about Mark's decision. I guess I got caught up on all the positive things happened during the last two weeks...oh well. I believe the final decision had something to do with the way OSU runs its offense...not a pro style. I was listening to a sports radio station this morning, and they keep talking about Petey's pro style offense, so it made sense for Mark to go because he is the #1 pro style qb available. Has Tressel ever uses the pro style offense? How is it different than college style? If he has not, will he change his philosophy because of a recruit? I do't think he will , but you will never know. Anyway, congrats to Mark and best of luck in your college carrer. It will be an interesting game between OSU and USC comes 2008...I think someone mentioned that we will play them then.

Well Buck you are opening up a whole can of worms in terms of jargon and philosophy here but I will try to answer without writing a book.

JT runs a basic pro offense in regards to formations. Pro Set ( 1 TE, 1 SE, 1 FL, FB& TB usually in the I), slot/twins (same except the FL lines up on the same side as the SE but in the slot), and Double Tight(2 TEs, 1 FL, FB&TB). these are your basic football formations minus the spread formations of Double Slot, Trips, and 5 wide. The difference in USC and OSU is the amount of movement pre-snap. The Trojans will read the defense and shift these formations either through audilble or motion to gain an advantage in personnel matchup. For instance, Reggie Bush may motion out of the backfield to gain a matchup with a LB when man coverage is recognized. OSU does this on occasion but not with the frequency that USC does. This is a very simple breakdown but hopefully it helps.

Well, I was friggin wrong. I really thought Sanchez would come to Columbus. As much as it stings that he went to USC, you gotta respect him for the way he handled this process and didn't leave anyone hanging till February. I'd say it was one of the better recruits I've ever seen as far as being aware and fair about the process. Good job, Mark.

goofy - good point about the timing. I am glad both he and Schoenhoft are doing this now. We still have Forcier, Stull and others as potential options. If this were January those guys would likely be gone and our options would be very limited.

In any case, OSU has rarely fielded top 10 rated QBs in the past and has still managed to field a serviceable football team from time to time. If kids like this keep showing interest it is only a matter of time before we hook one. Should we strike out this year and should Zwick (or Smith or Boeckman for that matter) demonstrate that this is not your father's OSU offense next year's QB recruiting should be stellar.

For those who may care...

USC's two-hour practice last Saturday at Howard Jones Field had a futuristic feel to it. With Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart in Gotham for the Heisman ceremony, quarterbacks John David Booty and Mark Sanchez took all the snaps with the first team. Trojans head coach Pete Carroll frequently goes out of his way to point out that Booty, the redshirt sophomore who graduated a year early from high school to sign with USC, is well ahead of the true freshman Sanchez in terms of reads and understanding of the offense. For now, we'll just have to take his word for it.

Both guys looked good on Saturday. Booty may have a better idea of where he's supposed to go with the ball and may do a better job of getting through his progression, but I am here to tell you he will have his hands full fighting off the challenge from Sanchez, a 6-4, 215-pounder who is scary good. Sanchez has an inch and 20 or so pounds on Booty, and a little more on his fastball. His release is so quick, it's a blur. I found myself just now typing about what great footwork he has, then realized that I was wandering out of my depth. I'm not a scout, so I'll just put it this way: he's got very quick feet, and seems very nimble for a big guy.

They both played well and made good throws; Sanchez made a couple more than Booty, who also threw more picks. But what do I know?

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Southern California backup quarterback Mark Sanchez was arrested Wednesday after being accused of sexually assaulting a female student, police said.
Sanchez, 19, was arrested around 4 p.m. just north of campus and was being booked for investigation of sexual assault, police Officer Jason Lee said."The alleged assault occurred earlier today," Lee said. The USC student reported it to police but no other details were immediately available.
A spokesman for USC said the university will release a statement later Wednesday.
Sanchez is listed on the Trojans' depth chart as the backup to John David Booty, but is expected to battle for the starting job this fall. Booty practiced only once this spring before he injured his back and had to undergo back surgery.
Sanchez, a redshirt freshman, played the recent spring scrimmage and has been practicing with the first unit.
