Game Thread Marshall vs tOSU, Thursday Sep 2, 7:30 pm ET, BTN

I'm still an old Woody supporter, college football was supposed to be played at 1:30 P.M. on Saturdays.
I personally will be there but it will be very difficult for people that live long distances and work 5 days a week.

The team knows that they are on a National Stage right out of gates. All College Football Fan eyes on the Scarlet and Gray! This is good to help focus the team leading into the season. A nice win to remind the Nation of the Rose bowl/T.P. performance is good for the overall "Q" for our program! Great :pimp:move by AD Smith and Tress.

Loving it!

The change from Sat. to Thurs. has been discussed ad nauseam; however, no one posted the link for the the-ozone.net story which offers some additional insight. Here's a portion:

"I was chatting with Jim Tressel while we were in California for the Rose Bowl about what we could do to help the team in the 2010 season, and this came up," said Smith.

According to Smith, by scheduling the game on Thursday the Buckeyes will actually gain two days of fall camp practice, and will also gain additional rest and preparation time before the game the following Saturday against the University of Miami. Money, said Smith, had no impact on the decision.

"There is no revenue impact," said Smith. "We make the same amount of money for all of our television appearances."

According to Smith, the fact that school is not yet in session means the decision poses no hardship on players since they do not have to attend classes the day after the game. Additionally, by playing on Thursday, the players as well as all OSU employees who work at the games will be able to be off on the Labor Day holiday weekend. Smith also added that were this not the season opener, he would not have considered the option.

I made a post on Scout about it, but Marshall had a great recruiting haul this weekend. The thread fell apart from its original intent because some fans thought I was making a case for Marshall to beat Ohio State.

Anyway, they probably had the greatest recruiting weekend in Marshall history, poaching 3 players from West Virginia and picking up other grade casualties from BCS schools.

I'm not surprised, Doc Holliday is a great recruiter.

I actually live 20 minutes from Marshall University (I live in Ironton, Ohio) and you wouldn't believe how much smack they have been talking to me knowing im an Ohio State fan. They believe they have a chance of pulling an upset in the shoe. I just laugh and walk away every time.

I'm sure it stems from the 2004 game. Only thing is the 2010 Buckeyes at the beginning of the year are way ahead of the 2004 team.

It gets really annoying to hear "The Suckeyes Better Fear Marshall, I got my Herd On how 'bout you!"

I have a simple remedy that works just about every time for these types... "with a sure victory coming your way, why don't you make it that much sweeter and bet... say... $500? Straight up. Whats that? Oh now you want points? Oh and you want more points because its in the shoe? Now that doesn't match up with your rhetoric from just now... I thought you said your going to roll? Do yourself a favor and go nip one someone else's ankles."

By far the best player on offense at the beginning of 2004 was Mike Nugent.

Yeah, I would say the 2010 Bucks will be a little bit different.

I actually know quite a few people from West Virginia who I spoke to about the 2004 season. I was talking about how it was a down year for Ohio State and Marshall gave us a good shot. They just laughed that 8-4 was a down year for us. So yeah, West Virginians aren't all bad I guess is the point of that story.

Sure we would. Just replace Marshall with any school from the MAC. Same story, different year.

Which bar are they going to take over on game day? :roll2:
