Matt Terwilliger (official thread)

I too like Twig but would say it's his footwork that is getting him beat a lot on defense. For as good as Hunter & Oden are, and with the incoming big kids..if he doesn't begin to improve, unfortunately his career as a Buckeye could see limited minutes from here on out.

I am going to have to disagree with giving Twigs more minutes.....I feel Hunter is the better call here......Twigs just does not have an offensive game.....he has really struggled with defense in the low post......I like the kid but lets be honest, he has not progressed from last year.

I like the lineup of Twig/Hunter when Oden goes to the bench. Hunter has the athletic ability to step out and play someone on the perimter and Twig can play the 5.

Twig has a nice offensive skill set, but isnt a guy that you base your game around and give him the ball inside, but if open he is goign to knock down an open jumper.

I am not looking for 25 minutes or anything like that, but I think about 10-15 and playing him in a zone with Oden down low...

OHIO STATE MEN?S BASKETBALL
Terwilliger knows what his role is, accepts it

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Trading elbows every day with Terence Dials and Greg Oden, two of the best post players in college basketball, has reinforced what Matt Terwilliger is not on a basketball court, as well as what he can be.
When Terwilliger came off the bench early in the second half Tuesday and found himself open along the baseline, the Ohio State junior did not hesitate to shoot ? and hit ? a midrange jumper.
"That?s my game. I can spread the defense a lot more," Terwilliger said. "It kind of changes it up, because Greg is such a dominant post presence and I?m more of a pick-and-popper ? spread the defense out, get other people open, more of a free-flow offense.

Cont'd...

Twig seems to play with his "hands in his pockets." It drives me nuts to see so many easy passes into the post and his guy gets an easy post move because his hands are down to begin with. Once his guy gets the ball the only thing he can do is foul or hope for a miss. He boxes out well but if he would just get those hands more active I think he'll find himself in better position when playing on both ends of the court. He's not the only guy that seems to play this way either.

Twigs has been my favorite player since last year. I don't really know why, but he strikes me as a scrapper. I like that style of player. When he comes in, he seems to make the most of his minutes. We usually stay even with the opponent or gain a few points when he subs in. You can't ask for much more from a bench player like that.

The game that really sticks out to me was MSU on their court. He dominated that game!

He didn't play so well today. When he nailed that 3 in the beginning of the game I thought he was going to kick some ass. There was one play in particular that sticks out in my mind. He had an open lane to the hole and he could have postered some guy but he pulled up short and missed a short jumper. That was disappointing.

I personally dont like his game, he has no post presence. He gets dominated when he is out there, I have never seen him dominate a game.

Terwilliger knows his role with OSU
Saturday, February 10, 2007

COLUMBUS Matt Terwilliger averaged 171/2 minutes per game in the first nine games this season for Ohio State.
But he's played seven minutes or fewer in 10 of the past 14 games as Ohio State standout freshman center Greg Oden has taken over the post position after missing the first seven games because of wrist surgery. "At first it was tough," the 6-foot-8 junior Terwilliger said of his declining playing time. "But as long as Greg is in there dominating the way he does, it doesn't bother me at all. As long as we keep getting those Ws, that doesn't bother me, either."

Continued.....

I have to agree with you. I have my opinions, but won't break the BP rules by posting them.
i know what you are saying. but hes not a guy who will "dominate" hes proven he can "steal" minutes. that is his role. yesterday he played over 8 mins in the second half to a minus 3 during that span with oden on the bench. that is his role to take minutes and when oden gets foul trouble to not allow bleeding so the team can buckle down and set the team up to play the last 8 minutes like they played them yesterday...
