Mid-Majors and Their Crazy Antics

Since my life revolves around Penn State fan misery...I remember them being told they couldn't host us for a night game the last time we had to travel to that shit hole. I then remember reading somewhere soon after that the rule was going to be changed.

Of course if those memories are accurate, that just means Penn State revolutionized November night game scheduling.

I remember a similar article -- on the heels of that same decision.
I think it was something along the lines of...
"It's not a strict rule, but it's a general policy. We're willing to consider exceptions." from the Big. Followed by quotes from several coaches who thought there should be more exceptions made.

Big Ten open to November night games

The Big Ten has traditionally been reluctant to stage night games in November. That could be changing.

League coaches expressed support for more primetime games in the final full month of the regular season during conference meetings the past two days. Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany told ESPN.com that the conference has no objection if schools want to schedule more night games in general, including ones in November.

Delany said Penn State, Nebraska and Ohio State are among the schools that have been pushing for more games under the lights.

"We've been very supportive of night games," Delany said. "We've gone from zero to 15, and our television partners like them if it's the right game. ...

"So there seems to be more of an openness to open that window on the game-day experience, whether it's in November or October. We won't stand in the way. We just have to figure out the best way to do it, but I think there's value there."

Though the Big Ten doesn't have a specific policy against November night games, it hasn't exactly been encouraged, either. The last Big Ten night game in November was in 2008 when Iowa went to Minnesota. And that was played in the Metrodome.

Cold weather, of course, has been one of several reasons why the league has preferred...cont

The November night game ban is one of the stupidest ideas Delany ever implemented. SEC teams are playing scrubs in primetime blowouts while B1G conference games are being played in half empty stadiums. The SEC is vastly overrated as the best conference imo, but they're light years ahead of the B1G when it comes to scheduling.

Exactly. I understand why the MAC does the week night games, as some have explained. My point was presumably the B1G thinks weather is an issue for November night games. Well, whether the game is on Wednesday or Saturday doesn't change the temperature yet somehow MAC teams, and fans, are able to survive the chilly temperatures.

Meanwhile, as you said, the B1G misses out on prime time marquee games late in the conference season.
