I've been to that board once or twice...most of them deny that the urine incidents ever happened, so I wouldn't be surprised if that response was facetious, though done with malice.

In my SRO spot at the Fiesta Bowl, despite the fact that I was at the top of the stadium section above TBDBITL, I had Notre Dame fans on both sides of me. On one side was an ND student attending the game with his family. He had attended all of their home games, was fairly knowledgeable, and we had a reasonable discussion throughout the game. He was a good representative for ND, and I wished him well after the game.

On my other side was a drunken fool that did not present a positive image for ND fans. All teams have some so-called 'fans' that fall in that category - I simply ignored him.

From what I saw, I'm pleased to say that tOSU fans were pretty well-behaved for this bowl trip. Before, during, and after the game. The relatively early start and great offensive performance probably didn't hurt.

Spend a little time in PA and you will have your answer. Noticeably worse when they win a few games. How they ever got labeled as "classy" has always been a mystery to me.

When Penn State was on one of their ascendent streaks I had the good fortune to get tickets to the game in Happy Valley. For the whole family. Not a great year for the Buckeyes up there - they lost. But, my point is that the fans were very friendly, the tailgate was awesome as was the post-game (getting out of there is tough). Free beers and freshly cooked brats for the losers was the order of the day.

I think their reported behavior this year may reflect coming back from the precipice of disaster in the prior recent seasons - and have more to do with their younger fan-base then the mature folk you generally see tailgating. One can only hope that with tasting success once again they will mend their ways and revert back to being cocky, arrogant but friendly fans.

I've never had any bad experiences in Happy Valley. Penn state fans are very classy in my opinion. At least they behave better than their coach......"get outta here" Joe Pa yelling at the ABC Camera before the Orange Bowl.

The original question was about arrogance not fan treatment. They do a good job at treating folks decent up there for the most part, the incidents this season not withstanding.

I lived near and worked with a lot of their alumni my entire life. Because of some mixed loyalties in our family I have access to tickets at PSU and have been to every game in the OSU series since '93. When PSU is losing the fans focus on why it's so hard for them to compete against "football factories" like OSU and UM. They cite the grad rates, academics, and just about every other excuse that you can think of. These people actually believe that PSU is Stanford-esque and academically superior to EVERY school in the B10. Two years ago Paterno comes out and says that Stanford is their main recruiting rival in an interview. If that is not arrogant or an inflated ego then I guess I don't know what one is. When they win it's almost unbearable. They claim it's because they "do things the right way" at PSU and not cut corners, or recruit bad kids or otherwise cheat (like UM, OSU, Miami, etc... do according to them). If you had to live amongst them for any period you would begin to see the truth.

When I was up in Ann Arbor this year for the Game, some scUM fans told me that they hoped my mom got syphilis because i was an OSU fan. I didnt say anything to him and he was really friendly until he saw my hat. He tried to pick a fight with me and my buddy right after he said the syphilis thing. Also, earlier in the day, my friend, who is a scUM fan, parked at his friends house. The guy came out and saw my hat and almost made us leaving and told me friend i was not allowed at his house and that I had to get off his property immediatlely. Now I have heard Wisconsin fans are jackasses, and i wont know until we play them next year in Madison, but I find a majority of scUM fans to be arrogant and cocky, as well as jackasses.

ND fans on message boards can talk trash, but so do a lot of fans on the web. Every team has some bad apple fans, but at all the ND games I've been to all the fans were well behaved and curteous. Buckeyes here at BP are all well behaved and realistic as well, which is nice to see. Too many internet fans are too enamored with their teams to believe they're anything less than the greatest team of all time, even if they have no talent :tongue2:

I agree with the comments on scUM fans. I've been to both ND home games against UM the last 2 years, and one game in the 90s. All 3 years the fans walked over the campus like they owned the place, talked an awful lot of trash, and I saw them trying to instigate fights on more than one occasion. Not only that, this year they threw bottles on the field ( in Ann Arbor ) TWICE when their own refs reversed 2 calls. They act like this every time we've played...when they were ranked in the Top 10, or ranked nowhere. Luckily, we've beat them the last 2 years at home, and this year away, so we don't hear much out of them after the game

New guy

Hello all. Someone commented, earlier in this thread, on some of the local ND fans not being able to name any of the players. My wifes' family are all ND fans (imagine the holidays in my family). I had a cousin who was a co captain for the Bucks back in the 70'S. My Brother and sister are both OSU grads and my uncle played b-ball for them back in the 50's. The only reason most of the local ND fans ( I know) are ND fans is because they're Catholics. They didn't go to ND...nor did any of their family....and most don't even know anyone who went there. I just like to ask them why they don't root for Boston College, seeing as how it's a Catholic school that they have absolutely no ties to either.

Personally, my aunt and uncle both graduated from ND, and my grandfather funds a scholarship there, yet I didn't attend. I suppose I could root for Boston College, but generally when they play us they're not the best...sportsman I've seen. Last time they played in ND Stadium they all tore up our field after the game, and supposidly did some damage in the away team locker room. I was at the fabled '93 game as well, and if I recall they weren't exactly a model team then either, but I was in 6th grade at the time and that was 12 years ago. :so:
