Mount Union (OH) Purple Raiders (13-time D-III National Champions)

Whitewater 13
Mount Union 10

Mount is still VERY good, but three straight title game losses say Whitewater is top dog in D-III now while Mount is a close second.

As a Mount fan, this might sound a little "sour grapes"...

UWW has an advantage, I believe, being a part of a state system. Their tuition is lower (important in non-scholarship D3), and they get kids who transfer down from UW (or can't quite make the squad).

That being said- I love the Warhawks' resurgence over the past seven years... before them, it was MU and Rowan as the powers... and back in the day Augustana was the team to beat.

D3 football is the awesome.

Ho hum, the Purple Raiders have reached the championship game, again. They defeated previously-unbeaten Mary Hardin-Baylor, 48-35.

The surprising thing is they will not play Whitewater this time. WW didn't even reach the semi-finals this year, so MU has a chance to regain the D-III crown.

Whitewater lost as many games this season (3) as they had the last 5 seasons, combined.

The opponent will either be Wisconsin-Oshkosh or St. Thomas (MN). St. Thomas leads 28-14 after 3 quarters.

Ho hum? UMU trailed 28-14 after 3 quarters. The 4th quarter was nothing but white knuckle clutch time.

Ho hum as in it is their 8th straight title game appearance, which is insane. It's not the first time they've had a close game along the way.
