Myron Rolle (Future Surgeon)

My brother told me about a neurosurgery resident from OSU taking a job in Canton where he'll make seven figures a year. Figure he won't start making that till he's 31, but he can do it for 20 years. The money question is so lopsided in favor of med school, the only draw the NFL could have is the competition.

Trust me, Myron will face plenty of competition in med school if he wants to enter neuro. There are a lot more med students who would like to go into a neuro residency than there are neuro residency positions - so it's very selective.

Good luck, Myron.

Florida State star picks Oxford over NFL draft - NFL- nbcsports.msnbc.com

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State safety Myron Rolle will study at Oxford instead of entering this year?s NFL draft.

Rolle won a Rhodes scholarship in November and plans to seek a one-year master?s degree in medical anthropology, The New York Times reported Monday in an entry on its college football blog.

?I?m very excited to go,? Rolle wrote in a text message to the newspaper.

Rolle, projected to be an early round pick, said he plans to enter the 2010 NFL draft.

Rolle, from Galloway, N.J., got his undergraduate degree in pre-med after two and a half years, and has been taking graduate courses at Florida State this year.

After his NFL career, Rolle has said he plans to attend medical school and then open a clinic for the needy in the Bahamas.

Can Scholars Make Dollars in the NFL?

Myron Rolle put off an NFL career to spend a year as a Rhodes scholar. Mr. Rolle made headlines when he put off professional football for a year. He plans to enter the 2010 NFL draft and attend medical school after retiring from football. But while Mr. Rolle is thousands of miles from the gridiron, he and his agents are working to parlay his Rhodes scholarship into a deal with advertisers wishing to highlight an atypical sports name. Some experts estimate Mr. Rolle sacrificed up to $8 million by putting off the pros. But his handlers argue the business opportunities he?ll derive from his access to the powerful network of Rhodes alumni could help him more than recoup those earnings over time. Mr. Rolle has already garnered one endorsement, from a football helmet company, but he?s got a long way to go.
