National Chaampionship Hopes

Everyone should calm down... a lot.

USC was #1 overall in 03, and they missed the BCS title game. That doesn't mean USC will get screwed again. What it means is that anything can happen. Heck, OU got slaughtered in their final game before the postseason, and they made it in. Considering we have three months to show the nation how good we are, I think things will work themselves out.

Would I prefer to be in Pasadena? Of course... but I will be very happy to get a big ten title and go from there.

Ohio State will not go to the National Championship this year because Texas and USC probably won't lose due to their easy schedules from here out. Although Oklahoma or Notre Dame might Pull Upsets. And Ohio State only beating teams by 3-10 points doesn't help. We need to win by 20-30 points per game to even get any recognition. Point Being: We need to blow out every team on the rest of the Schedule and Usc and or Texas have to lose.

National Champioship: Not Likely
BCS Game: Probable
New Years Day Bowl Game: Likley

Well said. It's true that Ohio State is not in the lead, but they are still in the race. I think that if one of either Texas or USC wins out, and the other loses late (for example, USC loses to Notre Dame), Ohio State may have moved up to #3 by that time. Texas would be #1, and Ohio State would move up to #2. Is that possible? Of course.

Note: this is one of the things that I hate about human polls - the timing of a loss is crucial to a team's finish.

Ohio State can win out. The two big hurdles that I thought Ohio State had after Texas were Iowa and Michigan. Iowa didn't appear on Saturday to be the power team I thought they were. Michigan has not yet impressed me. There's still Wisconsin, of course, who've had Tressel's number since he's come to tOSUm and Ohio State seems to play poorly at Penn State. Nothing's for certain, but I think that if Ohio State wins out, they'll be in good shape at the end of the season.

If we can't go to the RB, wouldn't we just love a shot at the Domers? OSU vs Domers Orange Bowl.

Isn't going to happen. You don't send a team from the north to anywhere but Detroit to play another team from the north.

The bowls are first and foremost (and, in fact, were created) to get fans from the north/east to come out and spend a few days and lots of dollars on a small vacation in the sun and a chance to see their team play ball against a team from the west and/or sun belt. When the Big ten and Pac 8 made the Rose Bowl agreement it was for champions only. The Orange bowl then went SEC/ Big 8 and the Cotton went SEC/SWC and the Sugar took the best match it could find.
