NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

So Petey's chickens have finally come home to roost. Are we to expect some harsh penalties from the NCAA? Or maybe just a cover-up? What do the experts on here think will happen?

I think that they are calling in Dr Jellyfinger and USC is going to be singing Moon River very soon.

Most athletic departments in turmoil fire their AD or force his resignation. In SC's case, as part of their self-imposed penalties, they've opted to keep Garrett.

If I were the USC President, I would ask for Garrett's resignation immediately, hire a new AD rather quickly, and then let the new AD hire the football coach.

Wow... guessing what's coming down... I can't say that if I was a potential AD (or HC) candidate that I'd really want the job. This just has train wreck written all over it.

hmmmm... so the allegations were made 3 months ago eh? interesting considering the tone usc has had over the last 3 months.

I think that USC's whole tone changed once the judge handed down the ruling that the depositions of Reggie Bush and Pete Carroll were going to be allowed to be made public. Prior to that I think USC was playing Russian Roulette that the NCAA wouldnt be able to get full disclosure from Reggie, even if they had previously talked to him. Either way I could see failure to monitor being the least of the USC athletic departments worries at this point.

Watching this thing unfold on ESPiN and the other sports broadcasters has been a lot of fun. They are in panic and it is clear that they have all decided to nail the PAC 10. One has a PAC 10 basketball sucks page up today. Petey is getting nailed by everyone with a heart beat.

Suddenly, Ohio State and the Big Ten are very cool.

For example, ESPiN run a "play of the week" segment on TV instead of showing American or European ads here. I normally don't watch them but I have seen Pryor to Posey in the Rose Bowl at least two hundred times. (and yes, everytime I hear it I look up and watch that pass). I saw it at least ten times today, despite the fact that it couldn't possibly still be the play of this week.

I put up a link to a video interview with Matta on his BP page, which one of the sites is running today. Anyone notice that the Buckeye basketball team dropped a few games and the normal cacophony of "over-rated" is nowhere to be heard?

They've been blowing smoke up Petey's rear and enjoying the food and entertainment at his pressers for years. Now, he's leaving town, a bad smell is coming in on the marine layer, and they are gonna run anywhere they can to divert attention from their stupidity in backing him and this charade.

Life is good. Fun to watch.

Wait, there it is again, Pryor to Posey!

What really chaps my a** is that during all of this, Petey avoided all bad pub, for Bush, McKnight, et all. OJ Mayo got a few bucks, and the bball coach got fired. (Petey must have had a a few more alums in his pocket).

As the posters have noted, the one common denominator is Mike Garret, a USC Heisman trophy winner, currently drawing a big salary as USC AD. Talk about benign neglect, and lack of institutional control, all roads lead back to Mr. Garret. He should have been shown the gate, but wait.....he's a heisman winner, and how could USC fire one of their heisman winners? So, Petey got to commit ceremonial seppuku (and go to the Seahawks), and leave, protecting Garret.

Put the shoe on the other foot, and if one recalls, there was a big push to make Archie the AD at OSU (when Geiger left, Archie was Asst AD). Do you believe in your heart of hearts that any president of the Ohio State University could/would have fired Archie? No way, no how. Same with USC. We'll see if the NCAA has any cojones, or 'lets it go' rather than vacating the wins, making them pay back the bowl proceeds, and losing schollies (a la OSU did, and Florida St needs to have done), like should do.

Methinks there are heavy duty politics going on and that my vbet would be that USC has 'self-corrected' and they'll let it go. Any other thoughts?

Suddenly with the Kiffin hire everything is rosy again with USC "fans"?
They are collectively whistling in the dark. There is an arrogance in the SC athletic department like "business" as usual. Not this time, Troy. Garrett has become the new "Baghdad Bob" of the decade.

"There are violations here! "
