Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

I honestly haven't listened to the audio or read transcript - I guess his outbursts are just old news to me?
IMO it's sour grapes... and hardly unexpected given his temperament.
If anything I found the AD response posted here a bit humorous... employed the guy for how many years and now going to claim they don't tolerate it? If that were they case, he should've pulled the trigger this time last year. It's a few years late to claim they won't tolerate childish outbursts from a coach.

It does shine quite a bit of light on the Riley hire though. If there was any doubt he was hired b/c of his demeanor, I think that's been erased. knappic has a good point about the culture too -- and while I have serious doubts about his capability to be anything more than underwhelming HC, I can appreciate that he'd be the right man for the job to fix any culture issues.

Bingo. The school looked the other way for years on Pelini's behavior, but as soon as he's gone they suddenly try to act like that behavior is below them and their program? Sure...

Always been unacceptable, but it was a different AD.
The calming influence of Doc Tom does still have some sway in this state (not like Zombie Joe, mind you).
As soon as Eichorst got here, Bo knew he was toast.

While tailgating with the Nebraska fans during our visit there we spoke with dozens of long time fans and not a single one was all-in on Bo. And it had nothing to do with football, it was all about his demeanor. (BTW, we never had to pay for a single beer while in Lincoln. GO BIG RED!)

Problem is, that isn't how things played out, according to the university statement. The university statement read, in part, that Bo's use of inappropriate language was "antithetical to the values of our university." Bo's been acting like that for years. So did the university's values change in the past week or did it, as I stated before, suddenly decide to try to act like Bo's behavior is beneath it now that he's gone, when it had looked the other way for years? In my view, the university would have been better served by simply saying that it was disappointed to hear Bo's comments; responding in kind makes the university look ridiculous as it rests upon an about-face approach to Bo's behavior.

Bo's behavior has been a problem for a long time. I don't think the university looks ridiculous; they simply reached the point where they couldn't accept it any longer.

We all have breaking points, and NU finally reached theirs.

So hearing him use inappropriate language for the 5,321st time was ok, but the 5,322nd time was "antithetical to the values of our university?" Makes sense to me. :roll1:

SAN DIEGO — Even without the presence of Nebraska’s former coach, the Husker sideline was still a passionate place to be during Saturday’s Holiday Bowl.

Tempers flared in the first quarter between two assistant coaches. Defensive line coach Rick Kaczenski and defensive backs coach Charlton Warren got into a shouting match and had to be separated by players.

Kaczenski was upset with several players after they apparently weren’t properly positioned for a middle block on a USC kick.

At first, Kaczenski was making his point to linebacker Josh Banderas as he came off the field. Things really got heated when Kaczenski was trying to point out the mistake to cornerback Josh Mitchell.

Curse words were used by both coach and player, and Kaczenski walked away before coming back after the conversation continued. Warren tried to intervene on Mitchell’s behalf.

That’s when things escalated between the coaches, with both taking steps toward each other. Players stepped in to calm things down.

When interim head coach Barney Cotton became aware of what had happened, he came over and spoke to both coaches and Mitchell to calm things down. Mitchell eventually went over and shook hands with Kaczenski.

Josh Mitchell is one of a couple of players that has been quite critical of the fan base and others via Twitter (the other being Kenny Bell). Charlten Warren is the newest coach (secondary coach) and is being retained on Mike Riley's staff. Kaczenski is Bo-lite. He was one of the few coaches in attendance in the 'Bo Farewell Address' in the off campus meeting that made Deadspin a couple weeks ago. Barney Cotton was the interim head coach for this game, but is going to be on the UNLV staff now.
I can imagine how that conversation on the sideline went (JM, RK, CW, BC):
RK: "JOSH!! WHY THE HELL WEREN'T YOU LINED UP PROPERLY ON THAT MIDDLE BLOCK?!?"
JM: "Coach Kaz, stop yelling at me. #iknowyoudidn't"
RK: "MITCHELL, PUT THAT @#$@#$@#$ PHONE AWAY AND STOP WITH THE TWEETING!!! GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!"
JM: "#helpmecoachwarren"
CW: "Coach Kaz, can we calm down? It's just a simple special teams..."
RK: "YOU SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE! YOU'RE STAYING, I HAVE TO GO FIND ANOTHER JOB, A**HOLE!"
CW: "lemme tell you something....I'm gonna bust your..."
JM: "#lordhavemercy"
BC: "You guys need to calm the hell down! How is this gonna look to the folks at UNLV for me?!? Now shake hands and make up!"
CW: "I ain't shaking his hand. In fact, I'm taking his office after the game. You'd better get your red streamline stapler, you joke."
RK: "@#$@#!#$@#$"
JM: "#handshakefistbump2Kaz"

Gotta respect this:

You may have thought the past month of Husker football was bizarre and you’d be right. You may have thought this Holiday Bowl was wacky and you’d be right. But it doesn’t get much stranger than Riley sitting in Section 58, Row 12, Seat 10 at Qualcomm Stadium, surrounded by players’ parents, athletic department officials and ordinary fans.

"I thought he’d be up there in the box, for crying out loud," said quarterback Johnny Stanton’s dad, sitting near Riley’s family. "Where does that ever happen, for goodness sakes?"

I suppose it happens during an awkward coaching transition. I suppose it happens when you hire a coach who really doesn’t think he’s a big deal.

"It’s just kind of who he is," Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst told me. "I think we both kind of wanted to sit outside."

Riley wanted something else, too. He wanted a rare opportunity to experience a college football game as a fan. Without responsibility. Without a headset. With his family. You may never have another experience like this, I told him at the concession stand.

"We don’t take it for granted," he said, hot dog in hand.

As expected:

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- There will be at least one change to the New York Giants' coaching staff in 2015, but it's not one for which the team was planning or for which fans have been hoping.
Quarterbacks coach Danny Langsdorf, who was with the Giants for only one season, is leaving to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Nebraska.

Fox Sports was the first to report the move, which a source confirmed to ESPN on condition of anonymity.
Langsdorf was Mike Riley's offensive coordinator at Oregon State before joining the Giants' staff this year. Riley recently took the job as Nebraska's head coach, so this move will be a reunion for the two.
Langsdorf was part of an overhaul last offseason of the Giants' offensive coaching staff under new coordinator Ben McAdoo and was charged with helping correct some of the issues that caused problems for quarterback Eli Manning in 2013, which was the two-time Super Bowl MVP's worst season.
Under McAdoo and Langsdorf in 2014, Manning saw his completion percentage rise to a career-high 63.1 and his interception total drop from 27 in 2013 to 14 in 2014. Manning also set career highs in completions and pass attempts, reached the 30-touchdown mark for the second time in his career and threw for 4,410 yards -- the second-highest single-season total of his career.
